Inevitably the panel really blooms with 4K sources. 58-inches may sound like an inbetweener size, but the extra real estate over a 55-inch set is a treat when it comes to detail and image depth. Skin tones look sensational, with believable texture. HDR performance is in line with last year’s GX800 model. We measured peak HDR brightness at just under 450 nits, using the Dynamic picture preset. There’s only a marginal drop-off with other picture modes. Combined with an admirable level of contrast, this means the set has no problem presenting specular highlights. Those elements in a grade designed to pop from the screen, like spot light or effects, really stand out.

Two things immediately spring to mind when watching 4K Blu-rays on this set: the colour depth is extraordinary, and detail is gorgeously depicted. Panasonic has long supported both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and it's adding HDR10+ Adaptive to the 2021 range.

It's worth pointing out that the 48-inch version doesn’t get the Professional Edition OLED panel or swivel stand of its bigger brothers, but it does have a central pedestal, unlike Panasonic's other 2021 48-inch models. The JZ1500 is available from June 2021. The JX800 also combines, for the first time, Android OS with some of the user-friendliness of Panasonic’s my Home Screen operating system. my Scenery allows you to choose a selection of restful images and videos, or set your own, to reflect your mood or time of day. Perfect for mindfulness sessions or preparing for bed. In addition to photos from LUMIX CLUB, which highlight the beauty of Japan, we also collaborated with LoungeV Studio to provide you with the most beautiful videos to help you relax after a hard day’s work. Its mid-range nature is evidenced by its connectivity. We only get three HDMI inputs, one of which supports HDMI ARC. There’s also an optical digital audio output, two USBs and component AV inputs for legacy kit. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)

Android TV simplifies your entertainment experience. Access 400,000+ movies and shows in one place. Ask Google to control your TV with your voice. And cast your photos, videos, and music from devices to your TV easily with Chromecast built-in.

The HX800 is a brilliant mid-range TV

Indeed, at times it looks more like OLED than LCD – red and blue primaries are deep and lush. Leading Hollywood colourist Stefan Sonnenfeld has handled the final tuning for the set, undoubtedly contributing to the filmic solidity to its images. A new On Timer allows users to schedule a time when the TV will automatically switch itself on, while users can also pre-select a favourite channel, or which HDMI input they want to display. Alternatively, the TV can also show the new my Scenery feature. The Home screen is easily customised, so you can add a favourite streaming service to the default button trio of Apps, Devices and Live TV, or put a connected physical device front and centre. This fuss-free approach can easily be enjoyed by family members simply looking for an easy life. The JX800 LCD TV will be the first Panasonic TV to feature the Android TV operating system too, and we wouldn't be surprised for more of its sets to do so in the future.

Sound Quality is also very good for the TV #although I read a few complaints#. I run the movies through my home theater system for sound #it makes a huge difference regardless of any TV you use#, but when I’m not or watching late at night, the sound the TV provides is more than adequate.Motion handling can be described as respectful, provided you keep the IFC (Intelligent Frame Creation) setting on a tight leash. Minimum adds little in the way of overt motion artefacts, but still holds detail well. Good news with fast-paced action movies and sports. The JX800 is the most budget-friendly TV in Panasonic's 2021 line-up and uses, for the first time, the Android TV operating system, which Panasonic says will include 'a very wide range' of streaming services. Dolby Atmos and Alexa are dropped for this model, but Google Assistant and Chromecast are on board. This Dolby Atmos-enabled TV is fitted with a pair of standard 10W speakers, but what comes out is more impressive than most. It’s no match for even an entry-level soundbar, which we would still highly recommend, but Panasonic has tuned this limited audio equipment with a sensible balance. Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG will all be supported on every set in this guide, down to the JX800, while Dolby Atmos audio will stop at the JX850. The remote control, on the other hand, is rather less stylish. It’s a regular Panasonic doofer, with dedicated Netflix and Freeview Play buttons.
