I loved their push and pull relationship, it was so realistic how emotionless Miko was towards Nessa at first, she really was his revenge. I'm so used to this trope but most of the time the Hero instantly starts feeling guilty or soft towards the Heroine, depriving me of the hate-fueled chemistry between couples but in this book I was served ENEMIES-TO -LOVERS excellence. I loved the way Miko slowly progressed with his feelings for Nessa, how he faced the wrath of his men to protect her, and ultimately worked with Callum who he hated and wanted to kill, to prove his devotion and loyalty to Nessa in her families eyes. Now, even though the romance was pretty tame for the first half of the book, readers still get plenty of Leo and Anna time. Readers get to see them as friends, how they are unconscious entities of each other, which amplifies the inevitable conflict. Once these two get their start, though, it is full steam ahead, maybe at times in an unexpected way, especially with that end scene. It was hot but very unexpected for what readers have seen thus far from them.

If I start talking about Nessa then I won't be able to shut up about how flat she was as a character so I'm going to stop myself right here. Like I mentioned before, I enjoyed the romance and both characters but unfortunately, towards the ending of the book, I started to get more and more of that "off" feeling about this story. It was the way Riona subtly, but consistently, started to come off as "softer" than she was in the beginning. How she started as someone who loves "having her own way" and then she ended up making this huge change and compromise because of love. How throughout this book and 4 books before it, it was clear that Riona is ambitious as hell and she LOVES her job, LOVES having an important role in her family, would in fact gladly take over as head of the family instead of Cal. How that was turned into "I'm not really happy and I don't really love my job" as soon as she realized she loves Raylan. How she's adamant about NOT having kids and it's made clear that Raylan would love to have kids eventually and they never discuss it and you get this sinking feeling it will end as it always ends in romance novels - the only HEA a woman can get, apparently.After reading the next book, I noticed that the author has a sex sequencing recipe. And after sex the guy just has to ask “You like that, baby girl?” Ugh! Why? 😖🤢

While this is a standalone story, I would imagine with Dean’s involvement we will get some of the loose plot threads wrapped up in his book. Pls Remember that this is a dark romance kidnapping story! The characters in this book are not 100% in the head so keep that in mind while reading this review and reading this book! Meanwhile, there’s Luca Diotallevi. He’s a man that has fallen hard for Lex, and that’s a big problem for him. He also belongs to the Italian mafia and is doing his best to try and pull off a heist. The only thing is that the burglar herself keeps showing up and throwing a wrench in his plans. She wants the sapphire too. Nero Gallo is the neighborhood psychopath. As vicious as he is gorgeous, Camille has watched him burn through every girl in a ten-mile radius, breaking hearts and never, ever getting attached.
