Was it a figment of their imagination, or was this a result of some kind of sleep induced hallucination? I was drawn in by the title and the cover of this book, so sometimes it isn't a genre or an author that draws me in. And, the decisions she would make while her children were in tow would not win her any “mother of the year” awards.I did not see the end coming at all which is what I look for in a good thriller and this one delivered.

I would probably not recommend this to others, and point people towards some of the author's previous books instead.They both struggle with getting any sleep so when they both see something strange in the middle of the night they come together to solve the mystery. Despite their unending tiredness, these neighbors both end up in a park near their homes at 4 AM peering up at a lit window of a home where they both believe they’ve seen a young woman, Samantha Ellis, recently reported missing in the news.

And both are convinced it is missing teenager Samantha Ellis, who vanished walking home one night after her shift at the care home where she worked. It was a cat and mouse driven piece as 2 women are both witness to a crime but are unsure if they can trust themselves. Tim and Mary don’t give up and continue investigating finding different people that maybe in involved.As if the author just had to fill the word count for each page and couldn’t find anything better to say.

Tim, a neighbour, was a war journalist but is suffering from PSTD and insomnia and has also escaped to the park. Apart from dealing with moral issues such as asylum seekers the book also deals sexual violence as well.For someone who struggles to sleep, books with titles like Are you Awake will always jump out at me, this novel was a bit improbable, Mary a mother of two demanding children is awake when she sees what looks like a woman being attacked in a house that is run down and being renovated, she teams up with a neighbour who has his own demons and sleepless nights to discover the truth behind what they have both witnessed. One tormented sleepless night up with her babies she looks out the window and questions what she sees. It is possible that my perspective may be unpopular, but I am convinced that honesty should always be the guiding principle. When the police are dismissive of their report, Mary and Tim decide to do some detecting of their own, but before long this gets them into trouble on multiple fronts. It starts off slow, with the narratives following Tim and Mary, two strangers who both think they see something untoward out of their windows late at night.
