Brand Kevyn Aucoin Beauty: Bring out the celebrity in you". Beauty & Glamour. 2008. Archived from the original on October 21, 2016 . Retrieved March 21, 2018. According to Kevin, he argues that makeup can make anyone any race they want, saying he can be Asian one moment and Spanish the next. I think that the climate of today's cancel culture would definitely not let him get away with saying that so this book definitely shows it is from another era. Aucoin made appearances on Good Morning America and The Oprah Winfrey Show. [17] He played as himself in an episode of Sex and the City called "The Real Me" (Season 4, Episode 2), doing Carrie Bradshaw's makeup for a fashion show during New York Fashion Week. In addition, he appeared with Cher in "Gypsies, Tramps, and Weed" (Season 3, Episode 7) of Will & Grace.

As a child, he was effeminate, loved Vogue magazine and all fashion magazines, blasted Barbra Streisand and was completely fascinated by makeup. He was relentlessly targeted by bullies for much of his childhood but, despite this adversity, his passion for makeup always prevailed. He borrowed makeup artist Way Bandy’s 1977 instruction manual entitled Designing Your Face: An Illustrated Guide to Cosmetics from the local public library (failing to ever return it), and increasingly saw physical transformation through makeup as his way out of small-town life, once saying: “If I could just make things look better, things would be better.” Alan Cumming, Tori Amos, and More Attend the 2017 Emery Awards Honoring Kevyn Aucoin". Vogue . Retrieved November 22, 2017. I will never part with this book, even if it goes unread. I will espouse its qualities to strangers, even when inappropriate. I will insist other people read it so they can tell me what it says and how we could all learn from it. Zwischen Bobbi Browns und Kevyn Aucoins Büchern hin und her gerissen, entschied ich mich letzten Endes dann doch für Aucoin und sein Werk "Making Faces". Und ich habe es nicht bereut! The Kevyn Aucoin Beauty brand has remained in business since his death, and is still sold in multiple stores, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora, and Space.NK.I work in an industry with some of the meanest people who have ever walked the face of the earth, who live and die for the surface. But the way I see it, I have a responsibility to do the most I can do, the way I know how. Since I know how to apply makeup, that's what I do and use it as a platform. He was in a long-term relationship with Eric Sakas, who remained a close friend after their breakup. Sakas later became president and creative director of Kevyn Aucoin Beauty. [2] The colors, textures and finishes Aucoin created in the New Nakeds would serve as the most influential direction of the latter part of the century, and visible as brands MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Laura Mercier all launched with their version of the products Aucoin created years earlier.

His story is inspiring, and heartbreaking. Read on for more on the most celebrated makeup artist of his time. Aucoin was also one of the first makeup artists to champion diversity in the beauty industry, starting in 1983 when he was made a creative director at Revlon and pushed to create a line of foundations called The Nakeds. It was a revolutionary moment in makeup as the shades in this line catered to all skin tones, something that wasn’t the norm. In 1986, Vogue’s sittings editor Polly Mellen booked him for a cover shoot that would be shot by the legendary fashion photographer Richard Avedon. The virtually unknown model was young, with bombshell brunette hair, pillowy lips, and what was to become her signature beauty mark…a young Cindy Crawford. This cover – and, more specifically, Crawford’s meticulously painted face – pushed Aucoin’s career into gear. Later, Aucoin would work with Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido on their Inoui line. [12] He would later be approached by both Vincent Longo and Laura Mercier to endorse their eponymous lines, [ citation needed] but decided to launch his own brand, Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, in 2001 instead.

It was such a big deal for both of us. We worked together a lot after that. If I worked five days in a week, three or four of them were with Kevyn,” Crawford recalled years later. urn:oclc:471665624 Scandate 20100421221554 Scanner scribe1.sanfrancisco.archive.org Scanningcenter sanfrancisco Worldcat (source edition)The day Aucoin was born in Shreveport, Louisiana – February 14, 1962 – “was my best Valentine ever,” recalled Thelma Aucoin, who adopted him one month later. He was the first of four children the Aucoins adopted because they could not have biological children.
