If you’d rather save your ammunition (and of course, in true survival horror fashion, you’ll run out of ammo a long while before you run out of enemies…), you’ll need to carefully position enemies by lining up runs past them. Dare you step into the darkness and take on these two huge new bosses, so big they engulf multiple squares? The main new mechanic for this expansion is the introduction of Mr X. Unlike other enemies within the game, his pursuit is relentless and he appears in every scenario. His only goal is to kill you and the other survivors, and he is pretty good at his job! The introduction of Mr X into a scenario is done through the encounter table or through specific Tension Cards. Either way, you're not going to be able to avoid him for long!

Combine that with the fantastically illustrated behaviour cards and you've got a true horror show going on! On the less aesthetic side, the cards are of similar quality to that of the core game and the models are sturdy and robust, any eager painter could easily make these beasties look a much more frightening to get that true immersion. Including six gripping new scenarios, this expansion adds 8 hours of extra gameplay to your Resident Evil: The Board Game campaigns. Or, play each scenario as a terrifying standalone experience!

The first couple of scenarios are kind of like tutorial missions, but I still think they should have made them a bit more challenging. I would never play those scenarios again as one-offs. This particular expansion is an odd one; the campaign play with this mini-boss is wildly different to the free choice play. When we played it as part of a free choice scenario, the tension cards we drew actually worked in our favour and caused the Giant Moth to leave its room and enter a long corridor. This meant we could pummel it with grenade rounds for an easy kill. This is not true to the Resident Evil game style.

Prepare to enter the terrifying universe of Resident Evil in Steamforged Games’ Resident Evil 2: The Board Game. Dare you venture through the streets of Raccoon City and enter the desolate and dead filled RPD? Survival horror is the name of the game, and survival will not come easily. Steamforged Games don't skimp on the details for any miniatures, and these two look as gruesome as you'd want them to. You can see the coils of stretched flesh along the chest of Stage Two, and the refined mutated hide of Stage Four. It's clear that neither of these would win a beauty contest, but that's the point! Their hideous visuals are half the fear, with the other half being entirely centred around what they will do with those massive, blood stained talons.
