Description

The TVS-hx74 adopts 12th Gen Intel® Core™ and Pentium® Gold CPUs, supports up to 64 GB dual-channel DDR4 memory, and features two 2.5GbE ports that provide greater speeds using Port Trunking. With M.2 2280 PCIe slots, the TVS-hx74 allows using NVMe PCIe SSDs to boost IOPS performance when configuring SSD caching. High-speed PCIe Gen 4 slots are included for extending core NAS functionality, such as adding 10/25GbE network adapters, QM2 cards to add M.2 SSDs and 2.5GbE/10GbE ports, entry-level graphics cards to enable GPU passthrough to virtual machines, and storage expansion cards to connect QNAP expansion enclosures. The HDMI output allows users to directly display multimedia or VM content that are stored or running on the TVS-hx74. As we dug into the specs, the memory was very interesting indeed. Alder Lake supports DDR4 or DDR5, but these NAS units support DDR4 SODIMMs. It also seems like QNAP is using non-ECC memory by default, but enables ECC on this platform. Here is the slide we found on that: QNAP TVS Hx74 ECC Memory Support Intel Core i5-12400 six-core/12-thread processor (burst up to 4.4 GHz), 32 GB DDR4 (2 x 16 GB) memory

Then you have KEY applications that are used on the QNAP NAS system that moves into tailored data access and use, such as: In fact, the range is productised as half-a-dozen unique models. At the lower end of the scale, the four-bay TVS-h474-PT features a 12th Gen Pentium Gold G7400 processor. The dual-core, quad-thread chip is accompanied by 8GB of memory and has a few limitations performance purists ought to be aware of. Graphics are dialled-down to UHD 710 (16 execution units) while both the M.2 slots and secondary PCIe expansion slot drop to Gen 3 x2 speeds on account of the lanes available from the Pentium chip.TeamViewer app enables remote management and connectivity to multiple NAS devices from Windows® PCs with an unparalleled level of safety, while increasing IT efficiency and end user productivity.

QTier – The QNP intelligent, multi-layer tiering system that works to optimize your SSD and caching configuration The rest of the system architecture is quite comparable to the rest of desktop NAS systems. The QNAP TVS-h474, TVS-h674 and TVS-h874 arrive with 2x PCIe upgrade slots (one at x4 and the other a CPU direct x16), a 4 fan architecture (1x for PSU, 2x for storage and 1x for the CPU+Memory+SSD+Network controller), HDMI and 3x USB. The HDMI is a little disappointing, arriving at HDMI 1.4b architecture, so that means 1080p at 60FPS but 4K at 30FPS (though internet/network streamed media is unaffected and this CPU can handle 8K). The USB Ports are USB 3.2 Gen 2, so that means the connection of 10Gb/s storage and peripherals, as well as KVM support with the HDMI port and allowing 2x expansion devices from QNAP that arrive in x2/x4/6/8//12/16 Bay scaled configurations – all of which support the latest generation of 22TB WD/Seagate hard drives. myQNAPcloud allows convenient connection to the TVS-h874 through the Internet without any complex DDNS settings. To ensure your remote access service is secure, myQNAPcloud strengthens keys on SSL Certificates to 2048-bits. I've also found some youtube videos of 4k hardware transcoding tests performed on this model and results seem pretty good. All in all, the fact that the TVS-h474, TVS-h674 and TVS-h874 arrive with the option of the ZFS or EXT4 versions of the QNAP Software and GUI is a large part of what makes these NAS appealing. The QNAP TVS-hx74 Series – How Much Will the TVS-h474, TVS-h674 and TVS-h874 NAS Will Cost? Each of the bays is SATA 6Gb/s, with most current enterprise-gen HDDs hitting 260-270MB/s or so (which promised 400-450MB/s HDDs from Seagate in their Mach2 still being rolled out slowly, plus their NVMe HDD EXO series still at the private testing phase at larger data centers at the time of writing). The connections are clean, wire-free combined DATA+Power connectors inside an aluminium cage. The system (depending on whether you opt for QuTS ZFS or QTS EXT4 at start up) supports numerous RAID configurations in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, as well as RAIDZ and especially business-centric triple parity configs. Opting for ZFS as your file system at initialization also allows you to benefit from considerably faster RAID build speeds (as the traditional volume layer is absent), RAID resilvering (ie re-introducing drives that have the same party/raid-group data that were cloned or accidentally ejected, is dramatically reduced in rebuild time to minutes, not hours), and other benefits towards inline data compression and deduplication (covered later).
