I was a bit disappointed with this little book as the pages protruded from the spine of the book and look like they may come adrift and the graphics were badly printed. It would usually be replaced with a scene of Dumbo falling asleep and having a dream about flying, before ending up in the tree the next morning. The term had become a pejorative term for African Americans, and commonly referred to racial segregation laws, and the character's name was changed in the 1950s to "Dandy Crow" in attempt to avoid controversy. The Encyclopedia of Racism in American Films (2018) notes that "All of the circus laborers are African American, the only time that blacks are seen in any great number in the entire movie.

Dumbo's Circus is a live-action/ puppet television series for preschool audiences that aired on The Disney Channel in the 1980s. Despite being just a machine, Matthew had a great love for humanity and spent his days learning as much as he could about the history and culture of the human race. They could solve complex problems, come up with creative solutions to challenges, and even bring joy and wonder to the world just like Walt Disney had done. Poor little Dumbo couldn't help how different his ears were - he was still precious and beautiful to his mommy and daddy. The book has surface soiling and wear and tears at the spine but it is complete and tightly held together.

The original 1941 film has more (if not the most) plot changes in printed/book adaptations compared to other Disney films. I don't know why it took so long for someone to come up with the idea of an elephant's ears being used as makeshift wings, but it's a little brilliant. Will Dumbo change himself to be accepted, or will he discover that amazing things can happen when you believe in yourself?
