I'm really glad I picked it up from my library and gave it a try because after a really busy day, I found this a great manga to read and unwind. Harvey Awards Nominate Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Shuna's Journey, Cat + Gamer, Goodbye, Eri Manga". She's got a reputation at work, but she doesn't care--once closing time hits, she's off for home, ready to throw on some sweats and get gaming!

When Riko brings the expensive cat toy home and her cat only plays with it for 30 minutes compared to the cheap toy that has instant success and played with much longer, it really made me laugh because it was the *opposite* of what gaming taught her. Art-wise, they clearly had a lot of love for cats as each panel not only has them in cute poses but also the level of detail in the way the cat’s fur is depicted is very impressive, especially on he cover – you almost want to reach out and pet the cat! He has translated popular manga such as Kitaro, Captain Harlock, Cutie Honey, Devil Man, and Showa: A History of Japan. I found our main character, Riko, to be an interesting character and loved seeing her gaming habits right from the beginning because it really helps show how different things are once she takes in this stray. As a fellow gamer, I could see a lot of myself in her (as a proud owner of the Shadow the Hedgehog PS2 controller) and I’m sure other gamers will too. There's not really much here in terms of story or characters (as you'd expect from a slice of life manga), it's just vignettes of Riko learning the ins and outs of having a cat interspersed with her gaming and work and Musubi being cute and hilarious, and why would anyone not want that? I also liked the detail in the games that Riko plays; they’re somewhat generic, with references to the likes of Dragon’s Quest, Final Fantasy, the Souls games and such, but it’s still detailed regardless. Equal parts funny and heartwarming, Cat + Gamer is the perfect manga for cat lovers, gamers, and anyone looking for a lighthearted new read! Not all manga is created equal; some are created because the mangaka wants to tell a grand story with heavy themes and plot twists.

When Dark Horse editor Philip Simon contacted me about Cat + Gamer I had no idea what to expect," Davisson tells Newsarama. It touched the most softest parts of my heart and the bonus panels we get from Musubi's perspective is so precious. Her coworkers can't quite figure her out--she never talks about her personal life, she never works overtime, and she never joins them for happy hour.

A great example of this is when she says how if she spends more money on an item (cat toy), the more satisfying and powerful the item (cat toy) will be. From Japanese publisher Shogakukan, creator Wataru Nadatani, and translator Zack Davisson, Dark Horse is proud to announce the upcoming manga Cat + Gamer, available for the first time in English! I'm not a huge cat person nor am I a "hardcore" gamer, but the super cute cover and the fun-sounding title made this a manga hard to pass on! We're taken along as she navigates tricky things like how to continue gaming with a cat getting in the way, what to do about fleas, and learning that the most expensive toy isn't necessarily the best option.
