Description

If the score difference is equal to the number of points still on the table, either before or after the penalty is applied, and the referee believes that the foul was not intentional. This is to prevent the score difference from decreasing too much, at the referee's discretion. A concession, in which one player gives up due to being too far behind to have a realistic chance of winning the frame. Concession before the snookers-required stage may be interpreted as unsporting conduct and result in a penalty of a second frame being applied. [1]

Snooker balls are standardized at 52.5mm ( 2 + 1⁄ 16in) in diameter within a tolerance of plus or minus 0.05mm (0.002in). No standard weight is defined, but all balls in the set must be the same weight within a tolerance of 3g (0.11oz). [11] Snooker sets are also available with considerably smaller-than-regulation balls (and even with ten instead of fifteen reds) for play on smaller tables (down to half-size), and are sanctioned for use in some amateur leagues. Sets for American snooker are typically 2 + 1⁄ 8in (54.0mm), with numbered colour balls. A match ends when one player has won enough frames to make it impossible for the other player to catch up. For example, in a match of 19 frames, the first player to win 10 is the victor. A ball with wear may not hit another one cleanly, which can send it in a different direction than intended After all six colours have been potted, the player with the higher score wins the frame (but see below for end-of-frame scenarios). A medium tip is the best way to achieve both types of strokes, but more serious players will have a range of pool cues in their arsenal to meet all of these different moves.

Failure to do this is a standard foul and all object balls are considered, including the eight-ball. Failure to hit a ball "on" three times in a row, if the player has a clear sight of the ball. The referee will warn a player after a second such miss that a third miss will mean that the opponent will be awarded the frame. This rule does not apply if the player is snookered. As missing due to avoiding a direct shot on a ball is usually a tactical, rather than skill-related, outcome, this rule is rarely invoked, as a player will simply hit the ball directly on the third shot. [1] In most versions of snooker there is no time limit between shots however the referee can issue a warning, and in case the warning is not respected the referee can reward the frame to the opponent. [2] In other versions the maximum time allowed for each shot is 60 seconds, otherwise a foul is incurred. [3] Gameplay [ edit ] Snooker table with all balls at the beginning of a frame.
