When should you read this in the series? Even though it says 6.5 if I were starting from scratch I’d read it directly after The Hero of Ages. Do Not under any circumstances read it before that as there are spoilers everywhere. You might spoil a smidge of something in Bands of Mourning but I think it is pretty minor and not a big deal and I would have loved to have this to read directly after The Hero of Ages.

Delivers more excitement, adventure, and magic in a newly industrialized world that is as richly realized as any of Sanderson’s creations.” — Buzzfeed The Lord Ruler: A seemingly immortal being who rules the Final Empire, and has oppressed the people for a thousand years. When Vin accidentally frees Ruin when she gives up the power at the Well, Kelsier is also released. With the world now under direct threat from Ruin, a dying Preservation tasks Kelsier to find help. Following Preservation's guidance, Kelsier meets two people from different worlds, Khriss and Nazh, who point him to a covert group known as the Ire (Eyree) as his only chance for aid.I don't actually have much to say about this, now that it comes time to write the review. It's hard to talk about any of it without spoiling way too much for this entire series, including major stuff from both the first and second Mistborn series. It's definitely best read after Bands of Mourning. The part where Spook is doubting himself and lamenting about how Kelsier forgot him and didn't care about him. The fact that Kelsier was watching him in that moment and saying that he was his friend, and that he did care was just too hearbreaking for me. I loved that moment in the original trilogy: I cried then, I cried now. I am such a mess oh my god.

The lovely thing about this novella and it's contents, is that Sanderson didn't randomly decide to write it after the fact. He had this planned all along. And this novella fills in all the gaps he deliberately left in the original trilogy. I don't feel like I should need to say this, but apparently there's been argument in the fandom about the end of the book: Hemalurgy is bad, folks. It's an end-negative magic which depends on death... and Kelsier deliberately reintroduced it to Scadrial so that he could regain a physical body. Spook's book about the subject? Pretty clear now that that came from Kelsier. Which means that Edwarn and Telsin's Hemalurgic spikes - which allowed the Set to gain control of a city-destroying weapon and literally killed Wax - are the result of Kelsier's decision.I can’t help thinking you aren’t pulling your weight on this team, Fuzz. Come on. Work with me. You indicated that Allomancers last longer. Feruchemists too?”

People with power,” Kelsier said, pointing toward the distant spires of Kredik Shaw. This was the road the Lord Ruler had taken, heading toward his palace. Though the Lord Ruler’s carriage was now distant, Kelsier could still see his soul glowing up there somewhere. Far brighter than the others. This meta article is still missing information. Please help The Coppermind by expanding it. Mistborn Era 2pulled his hand out, however, trailing light like molasses. He turned his hand over, inspecting the glow, which eventually faded. “So now what?” Kelsier asked. “You remain here?” “Here?” The Lord Ruler laughed. “With an impotent mouse and a half- blooded rat? Please.” He closed his eyes, then he stretched toward that point that defied geometry. He faded, then finally vanished. Kelsier gaped. “He left?” “To the Somewhere Else,” Fuzz said, sitting down. “I should not have been so hopeful. Everything passes, nothing is eternal. That is what Ati always claimed. . . .” “He didn’t have to leave,” Kelsier said. “He could have remained. Could have survived!” “I told you, by this point rational people want to move on.” Fuzz vanished. Kelsier remained standing there, at the edge of his prison, the glowing pool tossing his shadow across the floor. He stared into the misty room with its columns, waiting for something, though he wasn’t certain what. Confirmation, celebration, a change of some sort. Nothing. Nobody came, not even the Inquisitors. How had the revolution gone? Were the skaa now rulers of society? He would have liked to see the deaths of the noble ranks, treated—in turn—as they had treated their slaves. He received no confirmation, no sign, of what was happening above. They didn’t know about the Well, obviously. All Kelsier could do was settle down. And wait. Those experiences faded and seemed to grow cold. One of the lights from the mass of fleeing people—it was hard to make out individuals, with everyone alight—scrambled toward him. At first he thought perhaps this person had seen his spirit. But no, they ran to his corpse and knelt. This is the first novella from Cosmere I'm going to recommend that the readers MUST read. Sure, most of the novella's were fun, but Secret History fills some major gaps, and appears to be important for future entries. Khriss: A worldhopper from Taldain who was researching the origins of the Cosmere. She plays her role as the main character in White Sand.
