Description

The underlying eco-friendly themes run throughout the story and make you think about the way in which the marine environment is ever-changing. I had an absolute blast with this book, all the characters are a lot of fun, with their own quirks they bring to the story. Blog Tour Review - Pax and the Missing Head by David Barker In a country beset by civil war, New London defends itself behind a giant wall. It was great to see the friendships grow, as well as Alex's powers and him learning how to use them and his full potential.

Review - Alex Nepture, Dragon Thief by David Owen - BookWormHole

Sarah Driver, author of The Huntress trilogyMeet Alex Neptune, the boy with the power of the ocean in his hands - a brand-new hero for fans of Percy Jackson and Dragon Realm! By weaving into the plot environmental issues, breaking gender stereotypes and digressing from traditional character tropes, Owen has created the perfect book for young minds in the 21st century. The otters were just adorable, the thieving seagull was very amusing, and Kraken the blue octopus was just wonderful! The first book had been good, this was much better, and I'm looking forward to the third in the future.I loved the diverse group of characters and the important message this book sends about the importance of protecting our oceans, sealife and environment and how dangerous things could be for us all if we don't do something about it now! There are different stages and some twists to the hurdles people encounter, but overall it was highly satisfying to see how everyone fits into the bigger picture. David has also worked as an award-shortlisted freelance games journalist and has been published as a poet. Some of the banter veers into childishness, but given that the characters are that particular age, it is more than appropriate. When you close that distance to almost nothing and can stand back to smugly put your hands on your hips… it’s a very nice feeling.First of all I have been following David’s work for years and I am so happy that he has tried his hand at children’s/MG as well as YA - and that this book looks to be blowing up in a good way! Though Alex kept doubting his powers and strength, the other two were great at boosting his confidence. He's also seen doing this one more time before later on he appears scared of entering an underground water tunnel because there is a high chance he might drown. The new titles – books four and five in the series – Alex Neptune, Zombie Fighter and Alex Neptune, Dragon Champion, are scheduled for publication in 2024. Usborne has acquired two new titles from David Owen in the “funny” and “magical” Alex Neptune series, which follows a schoolboy with the power of the ocean in his hands. Unfortunately, I feel like the ocean messaging overshadowed the b-plot around Bridget and her goals and the messaging that I loved with that. Filled with dragons, friendship, eco themes and the magic of the sea throughout, it’s a truly unmissable series, perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and Dragon Mountain. The series has so far sold in four languages (French, Polish, Turkish, Ukrainian), with more deals expected to follow. He knows he can BREATHE underwater and that there is no risk of drowning, yet it is built up as this massive thing, for what?
