I had an absolute blast with this book, all the characters are a lot of fun, with their own quirks they bring to the story. There are different stages and some twists to the hurdles people encounter, but overall it was highly satisfying to see how everyone fits into the bigger picture. Some of the banter veers into childishness, but given that the characters are that particular age, it is more than appropriate. When you close that distance to almost nothing and can stand back to smugly put your hands on your hips… it’s a very nice feeling.First of all I have been following David’s work for years and I am so happy that he has tried his hand at children’s/MG as well as YA - and that this book looks to be blowing up in a good way! Though Alex kept doubting his powers and strength, the other two were great at boosting his confidence. He's also seen doing this one more time before later on he appears scared of entering an underground water tunnel because there is a high chance he might drown. The new titles – books four and five in the series – Alex Neptune, Zombie Fighter and Alex Neptune, Dragon Champion, are scheduled for publication in 2024.
