However sometimes I just have to remember to ignore the author and look to see whether or not the book itself is good. I love this book as an adult, I would have loved to have my mother or grandmother read it to me when I was a child.

The message about gardens being a place for bringing together different generations was kind of cute but overall, I was pretty disappointed with this book.I suppose kids who have fond memories of being in the garden with their grandparents might appreciate this. I was expecting something gorgeous (and I had Grandmother's Garden: The Old Fashioned American Garden, 1865-1915 in mind) but the style seemed similar to "outsider art" like Grandma Moses. The Poppy and Buddleia prints provide a fresh look at florals but can also be used as a blender fabric, with a huge versatility of colour combinations. I hope she is able to relax and truly enjoy her grandchildren and gardens, but I find myself concerned for Grandma Hillary. Gardens are magical places where birds, bees, lady bugs and all sorts of things can appear and amaze.
