For Van Halen fans, the “Star Fleet” takes feature eight Edward guitar solos, “never quite treading the same path twice,” says Brian. “Ed was a wonderful soul. Listening to him and me, I feel completely outclassed by him in the studio. But in a very pleasant way – what a joy for me to be around a guy who could do all that. Such a privilege.

The third of the exclusive Queen The Greatest Pop Up Store 7" vinyl goes on sale this Friday, October 22nd at 11am (BST), both in-store and online. Next week: 15th October - Freddie Mercury - ‘A’ side: Somebody To Love / ‘B’ side: You Take My Breath Away So, one morning, I woke up in Los Angeles, on a break from activities with Queen, and made some phone calls. I’ve told the story of what happened next in the material you will find in this box. The outcome was something I will forever treasure.” May says “It’s all here. ALL of it ! Every note we played on those two unforgettable, exhilarating days is right here, on show for the first time. Hearing these sessions, especially through the new restoration and mixes we’ve now produced, still sends shivers up my spine,” he says. A time capsule of an unrepeatable moment, this much-anticipated, lovingly curated box set proves why.”

It is a powerful and undeniably moving reminder of just how bright and clear the light of Brian’s soulful solo adventure continues to shine almost 30 years on down the road. Between its warm, hymnal verses and erupting choruses, the song’s search “for a clearer view” maps out that journey in microcosm. As Brian explains, “the song came at a difficult time in my life. It wasn’t a sunshine time. I had to find a place where I could see a signpost to the journey I had to make. So the song is about that. I had the great fortune of having some wonderful people with me when I was going through this, notably Cozy Powell who was the most fantastic support to me emotionally as well as musically.October - Freddie Mercury - ‘A’ side: Somebody To Love / ‘B’ side: You Take My Breath Away - 11am (BST) - SOLD OUT The shop features limited edition music releases, new product drops and exciting fashion collaborations, with each month of its three month stint having a different theme; Music, Art & Design and Magic. The second of the exclusive Queen The Greatest Pop Up Store 7" vinyls goes on sale this Friday, October 15th at 11am (BST), both in-store and online. Undimmed by time or fashion, ‘The Platinum Collection’ is a reminder that Queen were always colourful, always dynamic, always ablaze with passion and pride.

The troupe also worked on an earlier May song, the bluesy “Let Me Out,” while the set closes with the titanic “Blues Breaker,” almost 13 minutes of scorching guitar interplay between Brian and Edward: not so much duelling as sharing ideas and passions. The new film focuses on Freddie’s life leading up to Queen’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985, which is this writer’s favourite musical performance, ever. The roistering “I’m Scared” wears Brian’s fears on its sleeve, while “Last Horizon” reaches for a sense of serenity in its expressive guitar work. Written for skiffle star Lonnie Donegan, “Let Your Heart Rule Your Head” proves May’s easy way with buoyant melody. “Just One Life” is a poignant elegy to a lost loved one, but very unusual in that Brian wrote the song about someone he never met – only came to know at a celebration of his life. There was a lot of ebullience, a lot of exploration, discovery and astonishment,” Brian adds. “And some truly magical moments when everything gelled together – a fusion of energies!”
