If the horse decides to take off and you can’t stop them, gradually decrease the circle size and use half-halts and your voice to steady them. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from an expert. The downside of any training aid that only attaches to your horse’s forehand is that it doesn’t harness his hindquarters, so it may not be the most suitable tool if he needs to be encouraged to engage his hindleg. How it works – Similar to a chambon, it works on your horse’s poll and mouth to encourage him to lengthen his topline. A bungee is an elasticated cord that runs over the top of your horse’s head, through the bit and clips to the girth between his front legs. Ground work can be used specifically to b uild up the horse's muscles. In addition, ground work exercises with horses teach balance and concentration. The basis of all exercises is mutual trust, safety and respect. The best way to practise this is from the ground. Body language and the right accessories are crucial. Only with the right ground work accessories can you work safely and efficiently from the ground. Ground work is a broad term, it includes all activities where the human communicates with the horse from the ground. Accordingly, there are many different types of ground work, such as gymnastic ground work with poles, classical lunging, trailer loading training with the horse, circle training, composure training, to name but a few.

Guérinière states that the cavesson is an excellent tool in the hands of a rider who knows how to use it correctly, but that it can be dangerous in the hands of an insensitive rider. The leather of the cavesson is supple, feels comfortable in the hand of the rider and fits closely to the head of the horse. With a fabric tape measure or twine, measure from the middle of the chest where the rug would fasten, around the curves of the shoulder, following the body in a straight line to the furthest point of the hind quarters - but not all the way to the tail. We recommend measuring in cm for the most accuracy and to be sure you have got the correct measurement, it is a good idea to measure 2-3 times. This measurement can be used as a guide for your rug size, if you are still unsure please call 01254 279666 for further help. Type of bridle: The lunge is attached to the lunge cavesson, slip bridle with bit can be worn for accustoming. Depending on the instructor, the continuation of this foundation may vary. In the Viennese Riding School, for example, the lunge is still hooked into the cavesson during further lunge training, and in addition, the side reins are strapped into the bit. Take care, the noseband should not be too tight, but nevertheless tight enough so it does not slide over the nose during the training.Goals of lunging: Gymnastics and exercise. The horse should lean against the auxiliary reins and find a support there. The gymnastic value can be strengthened by pole- and cavaletti work. Type of bridle: Mostly with a bridle, the lunge is hooked into the inner bit ring. The use of a lunging strap is now considered obsolete and undesirable. A well-fitting cavesson may also be used. So don’t use an ‘avoidance strategy’ when you are not skilled at applying pressure/release, but work on refining your technique. Lastly, the halter can often turn or rotate on the horse’s head, leaving it dangerously close to injuring the eye, and leaving you without the ability to properly communicate with your horse.

The EquiAmi Lunge Cavessons come with detachable bit straps so that they can be used without a bridle. Goals of lunging: Gymnastics and exercising. The horse is prepared for riding in many different ways and exercises are used to encourage it to correct its own crookedness.Robichon de la Guérinière is seen as a genius of the art of riding and outshined many of his predecessors. Please Note: These size guides are approximate and each brand's measurements and sizing criteria may vary.

When you are ready to get started, ask them to walk on while you’re standing at the horse’s shoulder, then gradually allow them out on to a bigger circle in walk. You can then begin lungeing with two lines, the outside one behind the hindquarters. Voice aids are important – use the same voice aids you use when riding and lungeing. This wrong development can be solved by using the cavesson. 3. What Kind Of Cavesson Is Used When Doing ST?Now, when riders mention that a horse reacts too sensitive to the cavesson, they often start to ‘judge’ the iron chain in the noseband.
