If you can’t find old barn boards, you can use 3/4-inch pine or cedar (and you can skip the planing step). Then, follow these instructions for aging wood.

What’s better for a beer lover than carrying your beer in style? With this tutorial, you’ll learn how to use traditional woodworking techniques, such as cutting dados and making mortises to build an attractive, one-of-a-kind caddy to carry your beer. Give this beer caddy a try the next time you go camping. It has room for more than one beer, along with everything else you need while outdoors. It’s fairly easy to make, so don’t be afraid to give it a try! DIY Beer Caddy With Ice Tray Using a ¾" Forstner bit, drill a hole down 1" from the top of your two 12 ½" pieces all the way through. I like to make sure everything fits together. Use the biscuit joiner and drill for two biscuits at the bottom of each 12 ½" piece. Also use the biscuit joiner and drill for two biscuits on each side of the 8 ½" pieces so it will match at the bottom. At this point, if you are going to do a letter on the front of one of the 12 ½" pieces, this would be when I'd woodburn. Just trace the letter and use a woodburn pen to burn it in. Apply a small amount of glue and insert your ¾" dowel into each side and let set.Clamp the pieces together and let dry for about 30 minutes. Nail pieces together. Use the brad nailer to completely nail the frame together. Attached the angled sides to the base with wood glue and then secure with the nailer. Align the 7 3/4" piece on top of the handle. Glue together. Attach the handle to the sides with wood glue and nail into place. Apply wood glue to the 8 3/4" sides and nail into the place. We recommend poplar for these beer caddy plans. It’s so easy to work with poplar, and it’s lightweight and reasonably water resistant (for perspiring bottles). It stains really well too.

I’ve seen some inexpensive versions of this beer carrier at places like Target, etc. I haven’t been impressed with the construction of the inexpensive versions, and a lot of them don’t have bottle openers. Insert a small amount of glue and add all 4 biscuits to each side of the 8 ½" pieces. Also apply glue in the areas where the biscuits will go in the 12 ½" pieces. (You can also just use brad nails and nail and glue the pieces together but I didn't want anything to show) Do It Yourself Beer Caddy with Ice Tray. This amazing project combines the age-old tradition of a beer caddy with a modern twist by including an ice tray to keep the beers icy cold and a magnetic cap catcher, which acts as an awesome bottle opener. Make this for that person who has everything or simply for yourself. This super handy DIY Beer Caddy is super easy to make, doesn’t cost the earth, is a great gift for that crafty person, and comes with a Magnetic Cap catcher that can hold all of those bottle caps as well. Are you looking for a unique gift? Then this beer caddy is perfect! It’s great because it can be made from wood from old pallets or repurposed wood, and it holds both cans and bottles. This DIY beer caddy makes a great centerpiece for a bridal party or just for someone who likes beer, and you are a “Do it yourself” creative type. The DIY beer caddy is a project that you can do with your favorite woodworking tools and some materials. Each of these is meant to be made with different woods or stains. If you want to make your project a little more inexpensive, just use pine. You can really use any type of wood – poplar just happens to be one of our favorites. Make the following cuts: (2) – 1″ x 6″ @ 12 ½″, (1) – 1″ x 6″ @ 8 ½″, (4) –¼″ x 2″ @ 10″, (1) –¼″ x 8 ½″ @ 4″ (plywood), (2) –¼″ x 5 ½″ @ 4″ (plywood), (1) –¾″ dowel @ 10″.For the 2 pieces of plywood that are 5 ½ x 4" you'll want to make a cut that is a ¼" wide right down the middle, stopping halfway. For the one piece of plywood that is 8 ½" x 4" you will make 2 cuts that are ¼" wide. You'll do each cut 2 13/16" from each end. Again you'll stop halfway on these cuts so it can fit together with the other pieces of plywood. Take your two 12 ½" pieces and mark 8" up from the bottom on both sides and 2" from center on each side on top. Make the diagonal cuts with either a miter saw or table saw. Cut the angles. On the 9" pieces of wood, mark each side 5 1/2" from the bottom. Mark the middle of each piece at the top and use a 1 1/2" strip to create a point on each side of the middle. Connect those two points with a straight edge and cut the angles with a jigsaw.
