The Maglite focus system is maintained which allows the Maglite to vary light output from a tight white beam great for long distance illumination to a wide angle for lighting a wider area. If you try that, the new LED is big to allow the lens assembly to be screwed back on correctly and won't allow the 'O' ring to engage.
