What is SPF and how does it work? SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is a measure of how much UV radiation is required to produce sunburn on SPF protected skin compared to the amount of solar energy required to produce sunburn on unprotected skin. As the SPF value increases, sun damage protection increases, protecting the skin from sun burn and photoaging (aging caused by sun rays, i.e. wrinkles, dark spots, etc).
