Description

For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. The F8n Pro is well-equipped for long location shoots or remote fieldwork, with a variety of power options and massive storage. ONBOARD POWER There are two more new functions of note. First, while the F8n still has two internal SD card slots (allowing simultaneous duplicated recordings), it is now possible to record to one internal SD memory card as well as over the USB connection to an external computer (instead of the second SD card). This increases the machine’s flexibility considerably, not least in allowing real-time streaming, for example.

Accurate Time Code (0.2 ppm when on and up to 0.2 ppm when powered off) I/O on standard BNC connectors; dropframe/non-drop formats with Jam Sync The F8 Control App (for iOS / for Android) lets you visually monitor signals, adjust levels, trigger transport controls, enter metadata and more from your Android device, iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. Three different options for power supply: 8x type AA batteries, DC power supply with Hirose connector 9-18V or 12V AC power supply (batteries and DC power supply are not included in the delivery) Take your films to the next level with music from Musicbed. A perfect 24 bit system has a theoretical dynamic range of 141dB (it's often quoted as 144dB, but that's without dither, which isn't a good idea...). However, the very best 24-bit converters are struggling to achieve more than about 122dB in practice at the moment. This multi-preamp/converter technique gets much closer to achieving a realistic 140dB-ish dynamic range capability in the converted signal.

The F8N Pro's custom microphone preamps feature a super-low noise floor. This provides optimised audio fidelity, eliminating any hiss from connected mics. The high gain (up to 75dB) allows you to record high-level sources, ideal for location recording where levels can reach high volumes. The mic/line levels are also selectable for both the XLR and TRS inputs. Advanced look-head hybrid limiters

Use eight AA alkaline batteries for 5 hours of operation, or connect the supplied AD-19 AC adapter.

The 32-bit capture development is significant, as it essentially eliminates the need to worry about gain staging and clipping while recording. As SOS Technical Editor Hugh Robjohns explained in a recent SOS Forum post:

The F8n Pro is ready for long days of filming and remote field shoots with multiple power options and high storage capacity. Talking of headphones, I think most F8 users would agree that the headphone amp was the weakest link in the original machine’s impressive capabilities. It was noisier than it should have been and the tonal quality seemed dependent on the headphone impedance. So I’m pleased to report that the F8n has been substantially improved in these respects. In fact, the headphone provision more generally is much better. Additional new headphone functions include the ability to change the response of the headphone volume control with three curves (linear, A, or S profiles), and up to 24dB of digital gain can be wound in to allow substantial monitoring levels even when recording with generous headroom margins. The F8n Pro offers flexible signal routing from all inputs to all outputs, phase inversion and mid-side decoding. It also offers high-pass filtering to reduce wind and other ambient noise.
