Description

In almost a century of history, the company has gradually evolved to become one of the leading "Factories of Italian design", capable of applying its expertise and excellence in design management to many different product types.

The thousands of projects - complete or forthcoming - his global fame and tireless protean inventiveness should never distract from Philippe Starck's fundamental vision: Creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives. This groundbreaking citrus juicer was one of the first items Philippe Starck designed for Alessi and still remains as popular today as it was when it was first launched. It’s an conceptual squeezer though… an “what if”… It’s a dream and a desire, but never fulfilled… so, it’s indeed a statement to the vain desires of men. In conclusion, Alessi has established itself as a leading brand in the world of design, offering a unique blend of functionality, aesthetics, and innovation. It is beautiful to look at while being eerily reminiscent of a Martian tripod from "The War of the Worlds".

My first thought was that it looked like the viruses I had studied back in school, or perhaps an alien spaceship a la War of the Worlds. An image of the Juicy Salif was featured on the front cover of Donald Norman's book Emotional Design. The user data collected is anonymous for us and thus does not allow us to draw any conclusions about the user identity. Created in cast mirror polished aluminium with nylon protective feet, the pointed base of the squeezing body guides the juice directly into a glass or jug placed underneath. The juice then flows down along the side edges of the tapered body and is finally concentrated by the pointed end straight into the drinking glass. The cooperation was built on the company’s will to create eco-friendly, contemporary plastic furniture and the designer's particular style. Prior to my student placement at National Museums Scotland, this was not a word I would have ever applied to a lemon squeezer. Alberto Alessi, in a recorded video interview posted on Dezeen, said "I am very happy with this project because I consider it a big joke to everybody.

They started on the left, and as they worked their way over to the right, they took on the unmistakable shape of what was to become the juicy salif. While eating a dish of squid and squeezing a lemon over it, Starck drew on the napkin his famous lemon squeezer. The gold-plated version was described as an "ornament" because citric acid from fruit would discolor and erode the gold plating.
