After a somewhat rough start during the opening credit sequence, the cult psychological horror flick is resuscitated for Ultra HD with a highly-attractive HEVC H. Billy Baldwin the stereotypical womaniser who thinks he can seduce every woman he meets while keeping his fiancé across the country in the dark, and Kevin Bacon who is the stand out in the ensemble as he not only is the key to bringing people back but he's quick to realise the deadly force they've all unleashed. The commentary ends up being at its best when the two touch on subjects like this and the period it comes from, the Hollywood of the ‘90’s where bidding wars for high concept spec scripts like Flatliners broke out all too often and high concept films were simply the norm. Full Moon brings together a six pack of B-movies produced by legendary schlockmeisters Eurocine in one handy boxed.

Detail is quite a bit stronger over past editions, there’s more depth and texture to the image in pretty much every frame, while the picture always looks like proper film, showing no obvious noise reduction or edge enhancement. Instead, it joins others, like The Thing (1982), which are far more thoughtful and complex in their ideas, even if the execution doesn’t crawl under my skin as expected. org, one of the premier destinations on the web to discuss DVD releases from The Criterion Collection, Masters of Cinema, and other DVD production companies from around the world. His friends, who consist of Rachel (Julia Roberts), David (Kevin Bacon), Joe (William Baldwin) and Randy (Oliver Platt) begrudgingly help him achieve his goal.

One has to suppose that those in charge of creating that film decided that it would either be confusing or unnecessary for audiences, when actuality, the film itself was. They do offer an excellent defense for director Schumacher, who is accused of being a “journeyman” by many, and they explain how they feel he hasn’t received the credit he is due. Flatliners has a great premise and largely runs with it, but the script by Peter Filardi ( The Craft) could easily have benefitted from a few darker turns. Elmo's Fire, in part due to dynamic aerial photography or in other cases like familiar music cues courtesy of James Newton Howard ( Falling Down).

The location where the flatliners conduct their dangerous experiment also accentuates the questions they are trying to answer. It’s also interesting that the film doesn’t really make a firm stance on what’s happening when these people die. It would have been nice to get some insight from Schumacher or some of the cast members, but that didn’t happen – still, to Arrow’s credit, what’s here is interesting and those who want to know more about the film will be able to do just that by checking these featurettes out.If you are one of the many fans of Flatliners, snagging the Arrow Video edition comes down to a few factors: do you already own it, what are the bonus features, and is the 4K UHD edition worth it. The wider colour gamut is certainly the biggest plus, the reds and oranges looking especially good in the shadows, and those blue tinted scenes (thanks at times to awkwardly placed neon lights) have a wonderful intensity without blooming or coming off noisy. The track also has several amusing personal side bits, like details around Evry’s Blu-ray collection that is organized by label (with a sub- section for Stephen King adaptations). At startup, viewers are taken directly to the menu screen with full-motion clips and music playing in the background. Perhaps the weakest moment in all of Flatliners, aside from not really dealing with Joe’s horrific misogyny, is that Nelson never really atones for his sin.

Each one of the friends goes under (except Steckle) and each re-live some bad incident/occurrence while dead, which then follows them back to the live world.Full Moon brings together a six pack of B-movies produced by legendary schlockmeisters Eurocine in one handy boxed set collection. Flatliners arrives on UHD from Arrow Video on a 100GB disc in a 4k transfer of the original 35mm negative framed at 2. As these experiments continue they evolve in that those who are quite literally put to death are allowing themselves to stay dead for longer and longer periods of time before having their colleagues resuscitate them. All those neons now have real depth and it really does add to the look and sound of the film giving greater clarity and depth to the many night time scenes.

Assistant director John Kretchmer (14-minutes) explains what an assistant director does (the ship’s first mate to the ship’s captain) before getting into some of the technical challenges around the film’s photography. It's easy to see how the others would be coaxed into going along with him on what is, in all reality, a pretty reckless endeavor. Arrow delivers a dynamic looking 4K presentation that clearly shows off the advantages of HDR, and I wasn’t expecting that at all with this film. Of course, they also discuss why each character has their own color and the reasoning behind the less realistic lighting of the entire film. Stylishly photographed by Jan de Bont (Basic Instinct) and featuring a cast of Hollywood's hottest talent – including Kiefer Sutherland (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me), Julia Roberts (Secret in their Eyes) and Kevin Bacon (Wild Things) – Flatliners is the ultimate life-and-death thrill ride. If you don’t own it and you’re a fan, picking up either the Blu-ray or 4K UHD edition is likely a choice you made once you learned of this remaster’s existence.
