Description

Although the gameplay is in a circle one at a time, allow players to peek at 2 of their cards when the game begins, the ones at the ends of their line.

At the beginning of the game, the players decide how the game ends. They may play for an agreed length of time or number of rounds, after which the player with the fewest points wins the game. The game may also be played such that when a player exceeds a certain points total, either the game ends immediately and the winner for the fewest points total is declared or that player is eliminated and the game continues until one player remains and is declared the winner. There are three types of Power Cards that may provide special abilities to the player that uses them. There are Peek Power Cards, which allow the player to peek at any one of their facedown cards. The Swap Power Cards allow the player to swap any of one of their cards with one of another players. This is optional, and the player who drew the card can decline, as they are unable to look at either of the cards they are swapping. Once all players have their cards, it is important that nobody looks at their cards. If anyone looks before permitted, then the cards will need reshuffling and redealing. If you want your kids to giggle uncontrollably, you have to play this game with them! It is absolutely hilarious. Not Parent Approved is an award-winning fill-in-the-blank game that will have your entire family in stitches. This game is inspired by the adult game, Cards Against Humanity, but unlike that game, this one is entirely appropriate for families. Bonus: Reverse Charades is another game that would work for reluctant readers- communication skills are huge in this game! Reverse Charades encourages cooperation and teamwork. The game requires that children play with words and ideas and get creative and playful. It’s a great game for wiggle worms! It can also encourage more timid players to come out of their shells a bit, as is safety in numbers! Draw the top card from the discard pile. This card MUST be used to replace one of her cards. The card replaced is then discarded, face up, to the discard pile; OR The ideal game if you’re looking for something easy to learn and teach to others, although despite being an easy game to play it doesn’t diminish the fun at all. Now you will know what you have, or you can refresh your memory if you have forgotten what you have. Your turn is over and you discard the Peek card.

Without looking at his cards, each player places his four cards face down in a line on the table in front of him.I highly recommend Rat-a-Tat Cat for families with young children. This is an almost perfect game for kids which will teach them a few things and build some skills while also entertaining them. The game is very cheap to buy and you should get hours and hours of enjoyment out of it. For gamers who aren’t children, I actually still think it is worth a look. While I doubt hardcore gamers who need a lot of strategy in their games will enjoy it, I actually did like the game and plan to keep it as a nice filler game. During the game, players will always have their four cards face down on the table. To begin the game, players peek at their two outer cards once, then turn them face down again. Each player now knows the point values of two of his four cards and needs to remember them during the game.

Be forewarned: There is abundant potty humor in this one, but that is why your children won’t be able to resist it. Need an example? To decide who goes first at the start of the game, there is a burping competition. Whoever wins is declared the Burp Boss and gets to go first. Rat a Tat Cat is unique for a kid’s game as the play doesn’t continue until a set point, it only ends once a player believes that they have the lowest score. Action cards may only be used when they are taken from the draw pile. They cannot be taken from the discard pile and do nothing if found among the face-down cards. After use, they are immediately put into the discard pile. If an action card is taken from the draw pile, it has the following effect: Draw 2 – Gives the player the ability to draw up to 2 cards from the draw pile. If a player keeps the first card, they cannot draw the other, however. The next morning, we arrived at the pool and saw something horrible on the basketball court: a soggy Dragonwood set. My youngest’s eyes filled with tears and he started sobbing. His absolute favorite game of all time, the one he’d spent hours playing with Mister Pancake and so many others, was ruined. He was inconsolable.

The objective is to have the fewest points at the end of the game. The points are the total of all cards the player has at the end of the round. Therefore, players try to get rid of high-value cards and get low ones. Since cards are left face-down, memory is a very important part of this game. At the beginning of each round, players can look at their outer face-down cards before the first player takes a turn. Power cards have no point value, if one of them is among your cards at the end of the game, you must replace it with a card drawn from the draw pile. (This can be risky, so you'll want to get rid of these cards early in the round). If a Power card is discarded, it may not be used again by any player. Rat a Tat Cat requires the minimum set up, meaning you should be able to get plenty of rounds in when you play.

From the reasoning above, we can see that Power Cards in hand are actually worth more than '5' on average as then number of cards are drawn. In a 5 player game, if the discard pile gets reshuffled into a new draw pile a hidden Power Card is worth 7.4 on average. Play to stay in the game and not reach 100 points. When a player reaches 100 points, he is out of the game. The last player in the game is the winner. Players may also choose to play to 200, or any other number of points.

Object of the Game

Rat a Tat Cat takes elements from arguably the most popular card game (Poker) and simplifies the idea so that kids can learn about card skills such as bluffing. The player on the dealer’s left begins the game and gameplay continues to the left around the group. A player may do one of two things during their turn. They may choose to draw the last card that had been discarded and use it to replace one of their cards. The card that has been replaced is discarded, faceup, into the discard pile. The other option is to draw a card from the draw pile and use it to replace one of their cards. Can you keep a poker face, but notice when another player looks really pleased? Sharpen your memory and your timing, and have fun with the cool cats and bad rats of Rat-a-Tat Cat.
