It has everything I need from a story: a wonderful, twisted plot, interesting characters and dozens of little things I as a reader can identify with. Stillness is the Key found me in a particular time of my life, - and the same will apply to many others, I believe -, in which there’s very little time to pause, sit still and consider my life. Being named after the central character in a fictional book written by your father has not given Eleanor Churcher an easy life.

I would definitely consider reading a different Ruth Ware book later though, since I thought the writing was fine and the story was interesting. Two years later a construction worker from “Ashdown Construction” came across Rachel’s letters hidden in the wall while demolishing the prison. You don’t have time for getting bored but you get exhausted after trying to absorb so much details about events and huge bunch of characters including their interesting back stories. There is a lot of history here, decisions that were made for the good of the two families, secrets that are being kept hidden for the same reason. It's now revealed that Rachel (the real name of our protagonist) used Rowan's (her roommate) background, experience and references to get the nanny job because it was similar but somewhat better than her own.Every chapter is written using the same formula to the extent where hate-reading them is almost fun once you notice the pattern because it's so incredibly invariable—until it becomes boring again for going on too long. Reading all of these comments, it’s clear that we all want a happy ending, where justice is served, bad guys are punished and good guys don’t rot in jail, or worse.

For me it was most effective in its portrayal of a monstrous, powerful figure casting a shadow across far too many people; I suspect it’s one of those books in which different readers will find different meanings.I sure hope so, because otherwise the book is stupid and not reflective of common sense or normal human behavior. We find out that the reason that the nannies keep leaving is because Bill Elincourt sexually harasses all of them. Eleanor/ Nell has every right to get frighten because all hell breaks loose and things get out of control! Rowan starts to wonder if someone is trying to scare her off, but doesn't know why anyone would want to do that. Wrexham another letter on September 12th, 2017 because she had waited three days and hadn’t seen or heard from him.

There are some good jaw descending with a thunk moments especially as you come to appreciate how Nell’s life has been tainted. Jack's also confused since only an admin (Sandra or Bill) could override all the speakers in the house. Moving seamlessly between past and present, an evocative haunting and beautifully imagined truth emerges. Holiday has a writing style that seems to go from the page straight into my brain (sometimes with a detour through my heart). The shocking contents of the suitcase lead Sarah to unravel a forgotten story of tragedy, lost love and an old wrong that only Sarah may have the power to put right. It’s interesting to note that Holiday doesn’t mention David Hume, Bertrand Russell, Jeremey Bentham, John Stuart Mill, Denis Diderot, John Dewey, and most contemporary philosophers and scientists that were or are atheists. During the filming Frank will reveal the resting place of the final golden bone, however, instead of the big reveal the lives of the Churcher family and that of their closest friends and neighbours the Lalleys implodes. The fact that it didn’t matter means an innocent woman had been murdered by the other inmates (who hate child killers: look it up). Everyone is dreadful and especially everyone in the art world is dreadful: it's wonderfully full of suppressed rage and resentment.
