Released: 28th April 2023. The Wombats Proudly Present...: A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation Limited Edition Pink Vinyl includes 2 Art Prints Alex Fletcher (6 November 2007). "The Wombats: 'A Guide To Love, Loss And Desperation' ". Digital Spy. Over 15 years into their career, The Wombats are pulling in bigger audiences than ever before. The viral success of Oliver Nelson’s remix of 2015 hit ‘Greek Tragedy’ has enraptured a whole new gen-eration of fans, a feat they’ve managed to continually repeat since their 2007 debut A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation. The band met and formed in Liverpool, UK in the early 2000's, and have moved onto have international success over the course of five studio albums, topping the UK album chart with 2022's Fix Yourself, Not The World and reaching over 1 billion streams worldwide with their acclaimed discography. 2022 has seen the band play their biggest headline shows to date across the US, UK, Europe and Australia, including a headline show at The O2 in London.

Let’s be honest, how could an album that contains Let’s Dance To Joy Division possibly fail? It just can’t, can it? Singles like this come along about once every five years, if not once a decade. This one song alone would have ensured The Wombats a glowing review. School Uniform’ is a wonderfully endearing tale of a school bus romance ( ‘you were nine and I was ten…you had a Walkman, all I had was a middle part and a pen’). With its spiky guitar hooks, snappy pace and harmless lyrics, it’s the epitome of fun pop. Nieuwe single The Wombats - "Method to the Madness" ". Dansende Beren (in Dutch). 25 May 2021 . [13] In the months following, the singles "If You Ever Leave, I'm Coming with You", "Ready for the High" and "Everything I Love Is Going to Die" were released [14] as further teasers for their latest album titled Fix Yourself, Not the World, which was published on 14 January 2022. The album enjoyed immediate success, reaching the top spot in the UK Albums Chart on the week of release and becoming the band's first UK No. 1 album. [15]The summer of 2008 saw the band perform live at a number of major festivals including Glastonbury Festival in June and T in the Park in July, opening the BBC Radio 1 / NME Stage set on the Friday. They also played Reading and Leeds Festival on the Saturday and Friday respectively on the Radio 1/NME Stage supporting Babyshambles. In September 2008 the band were filmed for a cameo appearance on Australian soap Neighbours. [4] The album, like their live set, is shot through with fun, infectious wit and a desire to create perfect pop while not taking themselves too seriously. You have to hope this level of accomplishment has to be something you’re born with but if it was instilled into them at Macca’s Liverpool School of Performing Arts, where Matthew Murphy, Dan Haggis and Tord Overland Knudsen met, their teachers deserve a lifetime achievement award from every music awards committee going. Which is quite a lot, these days. While many of their melodies are infectious, it's true that many of their songs shouldn't be as enjoyable as they are. "Let's Dance To Joy Division", for example, is a blatant pitch to get played at those same indie dance nights where Ian Curtis' band is a staple. But despite its hokey premise (and the fact that it contains cringe-worthy lyrics like "Let the love tear us apart,/ I've found the cure for a broken heart"), its English children's choir (you can practically hear the school uniforms on the singers as they chant the chorus along with frontman Matthew Murphy), over-caffeinated rhythms, and power pop glee are rousing nonetheless. And "Patricia The Stripper", with its self-explanatory storyline of a "coked-up, Botox girl" who works the pole for a living, mixes rote dance punk cymbals with out-of-place moments of Coldplay falsetto for something akin to a Killers song delivered in an even heavier than usual British burr.
