Hello DashVision community! Today, we're focusing on a topic that every dashcam owner needs to know about: proper installation. While professional installation is always an option, installing a dashcam yourself can save money and grant you a better understanding of how your device works. Don’t worry if you’re not tech-savvy – our step-by-step guide will help you install your dashcam like a pro. Dash cams record the road ahead of (and sometimes behind) the car so that the driver has usable footage in the event of a collision. The footage can be used by police or insurance companies to determine blame in traffic collisions or cases of dangerous driving. This ensures the dashcam records footage even when the engine is off (when parked, for example), so if someone breaks into your car or crashes into it when you’re not around, there will still be footage. However, it usually requires the dashcam to be hard-wired rather than powered by the 12v power outlet. Rear camera Some older forms of encryption have no business being used on a device in 2021. But the dash cams we looked at from Garmin, Halfords and MiVue all used an outdated, weak form of encryption. If a criminal were able to access the data on a dash cam, they could use it to work out where you live, where you work, what time you usually leave the house and where you go - not to mention being able to delete something incriminating from your recordings.

Choose to record audio or not. Be cognizant of the recording laws in your jurisdiction. Some States or Provinces require that the party being recorded be informed and that may mean that you are required to post a notice that recording is in progress. Not every dash cam user records audio, I don't for example, and I have a number of dash cams installed. It's for you to decide. It comes with standard ones such as recording audio and taking still photos, in case you leave your phone at home. But you'll be sacrificing other useful perks like parking mode, which activates recording if your car is bumped when parked. Impressively, the Apeman C420 records with a 170-degree field of view, which is one of the widest viewing angles we've seen on a dash cam. Recording with a wide field of view means it can capture more of the road ahead in its footage. Overall the camera is not that bad, however it does have a few areas of weakness that have gotten quite annoying over time. If you want to hook up your dash cam to the TV you need to select the appropriate standard for your country or region.A number of dashcams come with an optional rear camera that can be secured to the rear windscreen of a vehicle to record what’s happening behind the car. It's worth noting that if you do opt for a rear camera, you'll need to spend some time running a cable between the two cameras around the interior of your vehicle. GPS Places the speed that the driver selects that he/she does not want to exceed onto the screen. If that speed is exceeded, a warning will flash up on the dash cam screen as a caution to slow down. If you live in U.K. Most of Europe, Africa, Australia, Southern South America, Most of Asia and Russia select PAL ( 50 Hz )

If you're not interested in fancy features such as speed camera warnings and reminders to turn on your headlights, is it worth paying an arm and a leg for a more expensive model? Before you change this setting be sure that your lens is not pointing too high towards the sky. The horizon should be at 2/3 of the picture, 1/3 sky and 2/3 land. Here you can select whether or not those little LED indicator lights stay or not. If they are not bothering you leave them on, they can be reassuring to some drivers that the camera is working well. They can be turned OFF. Set your current date and time here. If the battery or capacitor is in your dash cam is kept fresh, by that I mean used regularly, recharged by your car battery, and not sat Idle and without any power for weeks at a time, the date and time on your video should always remain current. You may want to print this as a handy reference for when you are ready to start selecting the options on your new dash cam. Halfords has no plans to improve its encryption, because it doesn't deem the data sensitive enough to warrant it. Lane Departure Warning System alerts the driver if they are straying out of their lane, perhaps feeling sleepy or not concentrating.
