The main ingredients you’ll need are of course bourbon whiskey and ripe bananas. You also need some simple syrup which helps serve as balance for the sweetness of the fruit and some bitters as well for a bit of extra flavor. Fresh lemon juice is optional but highly recommended if you like an acidic twist in your drinks. Make sure all your ingredients are close at hand before beginning!

It was easy and fast. The only thing that took any time was straining it, but even that took no more than about 3 minutes. How to Make the Banana Old Fashioned Banana Old FashionedThe extra banana flavor punch: Peel a banana and cut into thin slices. Add it to the distillate for around 5 days. This adds a delicious banana aroma and is our favorite banana moonshine flavoring. When it comes to preparing your own banana-infused whiskey drink, there are actually two ways you can go about it: using pre-made commercial mixes or going all out with an artisanal version carefully crafted at home. While it might take a bit more time and effort than buying pre-made mixes, a homemade concoction will allow you to customize flavors and choose specific spirits that will best complement this tasty twist on traditional tipples. Peel 3 very ripe bananas and put them in a small saucepan. Add a third cup of water and a cup of sugar. Break up the bananas just enough that you can move the liquid through the pan. Let it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. It will be foamy, but that’s normal. Turn off the heat and let cool. Strain into a clean glass jar and store in the fridge. It makes about a cup of syrup. Once you have mashed up the bananas, add two ounces of bourbon whiskey along with one ounce of cinnamon syrup. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Insofar as is permitted by law, the promoter, its agents, employees, and/or representatives shall in no circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate any entrant who participates in the competition and/or the winner and their guest(s) who claim(s) the prize for any loss, damage, personal injury or death whatsoever and howsoever caused, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, for any direct, indirect or consequential losses arising out of or in connection with their participation in this competition, any failure or delays or postponements or cancellations in making the appropriate travel and accommodation arrangements as a result of the winner taking up the prize (including in relation to their guests), except where it is caused by the negligence of the promoter, its agents, employees, and/or authorised representatives. Competition entrants’ statutory rights are not affected.

Next, strain the banana moonshine mash through a cheesecloth and make sure to avoid any pulp getting into the final wash. Squeeze out any liquids from the pulp. Balance Your Spirits– Choosing a spirit should be done carefully. You want a spirit that stands up well to pair with banana, but doesn’t dominate it entirely; making sure there is still room for subtle sweetness and fruitiness without completely overpowering it. A good choice would be an aged rum or cognac — both have enough natural sweetness on their own which makes them great partners for mashed bananas! You may be asking yourself, is it just bourbon that tastes good with banana? According to Irish whiskey giant Jameson, not so! They’ve offered up an official recipe for Banana Infused Jameson, which involves leaving your Jameson in a container with bananas for 3-4 days. If it’s good enough for Jameson, it’s good enough for us! The banana moonshine wash may still produce quite some foam during the distillation process. So don’t fill up the still too much to prevent the foam from messing up your still. The secret here is to slowly heat up the temperature of the wash.

Don’t forget that there are great aged spirits, too. When it comes to banana, these usually come in rum form, and the they’re worth playing around with as you dial in your drinks and preferences. There are various ways to flavor or age your banana moonshine. Here are a few ideas and you can also combine them: Robert Mondavi Winery's Director of Hospitality Phil Hansell told The Manual, "The honor and responsibility of being a part of the team ushering in this next chapter is humbling. The wine is world-class. The food is authentic, unapologetically Napa, and we want all to be a part of it and enjoy it."
