About this deal

A quiet seaside resort. An abandoned shop. A small flat. This is what awaits Polly Waterford when she arrives at the Cornish coast, fleeing a ruined relationship. En definitiva, la autora nos regala una lectura amena con personajes pintorescos y entrañables, no tiene grandes pretensiones más que entretener y hacer pasar un buen momento al lector, mezclando romance, humor y algún que otro drama.

Little Beach Street Bakery (4 book series) Kindle edition

The story has its typical ups and downs of life. It shows the struggles and changes in business and life at home - the friendships - letting go - and doing the right thing - and trusting your feelings. Polly was a realistic character: full of flaws, yet incredibly likeable and relatable. The rest of the characters reflected the town from where they came; unique, whimsical, and almost fairy tale in their quality. I enjoyed the humor and romance Jenny Colgan brings out in the novel, and I also appreciated the varying voices of her characters as they struggled with some rather complicated moral and just plain emotional issues. People make some pretty stupid choices--or even choices we don't agree with. When it's a friend or someone you love, how do you react? Do you stand by them? Take a superior moral stand? Straddle both? Especially when so much is at stake. The peril is greater this time around, the stakes are higher and things look pretty bleak for a good portion of this book. There are a number of very moving sections and I even had tears rolling down my cheeks twice succumbed to my book allergy and had to start freebasing antihistamines. What a wonderful escape! I absolutely loved the setting. A tiny little island that can only be accessed by the causeway at low tide, and gets submerged at high tide. This is a story about transformation and letting go. It is also a story about the strength of a community and connection with others. And the people and atmosphere of the small seaside village setting (which the author reveals IN THIS INTERVIEW was inspired by the real-life St Michael's Mount in Cornwell). So well-written. On the surface, Colgan’s latest appears to be a cute book about baking, but there is much more depth and emotion here than initially meets the eye. At times lighthearted and funny, and at times contemplative and deep, this novel is a real gem. The descriptions of bread and bread making, coupled with recipes, make the book an immersive experience. Add to this charming, small-town life, love and friendship, and readers will truly delight in the time spent reading this splendid tale. Amid the ruins of her latest relationship, Polly Waterford moves far away to the sleepy seaside resort of Polbearne, where she lives in a small, lonely flat above an abandoned shop.

Little Beach Street Bakery Series by Jenny Colgan - Goodreads

Polbearne, a quaint seaside village off the coast of England, is based off the actual island St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall. Colgan’s descriptions of the village were thorough, detailing not only the people and their way of life but of the town itself and the sole causeway being the only way to come and go on the island. While the people in the village weren’t always the most friendly (since they saw Polly as an outsider), the village itself sounded like a such a lovely place to reside with its small shops on cobbled streets and a ruined yet still charming castle on the top of a hill overlooking the island. These books essentially follow a collection of characters as they live their lives. There is little in the way of epic plot points or arcs. But then she lost the boyfriend and the business eventually went bankrupt. Polly was forced to leave the life she thought she loved so much in favor of a Cornish tidal town called Polbearne. Polly’s move was necessitated by the fact that the town was the only place she could afford to live. I've been craving fresh-baked artisan bread all day...and honey. Lots of raw honey. Thanks for the carbs Jenny Colgan. But when Kerensa, her best friend, entrusts her with a secret, her life is turned upside down. Everything becomes even more tense when an old ghost from her past shows up. Then, the end. Well the happy end was okay, but not nearly cute enough. At all. And before the final happy end, of course there had to be some total, life-threatening drama. Which had to do with the sea, just as in the first part. Okay, they live on a tiny island, so heavy storms and huge waves and whatnot are probably most likely, but still. And after that Polly is the most wonderful heroine of all time, blah, blah, blah. How could it have been any different?

Sunrise by the Sea: Escape to the Cornish coast with this

Jenny Colgan loves Cornwall and it shows. Her settings might originate from her imagination but they are steeped in history and her childhood. I loved the location, in Cornwall, and loved the people. And as it's set in a bakery, craved fresh bread all day. While there, she is surprised to find that her life can still thrive even in the midst of heartbreak and perceived failure.

I don't want to say too much about the actual story because it could only litter the review with spoilers but I will say that at least one character from the first book dies. Oh, yes... the author's pulling no punches with this one. After reading Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery, book three in the Little Beach Street Bakery series did I just have to read the first book because I found the one I read marvelous.
