An officer in the Crime Investigation Unit of the Osaka Prefectural Police, Hisashi was also investigating the pawnshop incidence. He rose through the ranks of the police force in the following 19 years. He is Junzo's coworker as well as his relative. PDF / EPUB File Name: Journey_Under_the_Midnight_Sun_-_Keigo_Higashino.pdf, Journey_Under_the_Midnight_Sun_-_Keigo_Higashino.epub I thoroughly enjoyed Higashino's book, the third of his that I have read. Like the others, it is clearly Japanese and very unlike most American books. I have had the good fortune to visit Japan a dozen times or so and have stayed in Ryokan (Japanese country inns) where, on occasion, I was the only English speaker and I know about a dozen Japanese words. Great fun!! At some part of the book, I find myself rooting for Ryo and Yukiho. I want to read them have their happy ending, and how will their relationships develop over the years. This is a sign of good character development, in my opinion. Even until I finished the book, I still feel some sort of sympathy towards the characters. The term midnight sun could never be more precise.

Journey Under the Midnight Sun - Wikipedia

Keigo Higashino ( 東野 圭吾) is one of the most popular and biggest selling fiction authors in Japan—as well known as James Patterson, Dean Koontz or Tom Clancy are in the USA. Higashino is well known for his mystery novels. He made steady progress with several acclaimed novels throughout the 80s and 90s, until he became a household name with the publication of The Devotion of Suspect X in 2006, the third novel in his famous Detective Galileo series. Almost all of his works have been translated into Chinese, but only a handful of his more well-known works have English counterparts. Anyway, if you're familiar with the novel "Gone with the Wind".. You will somehow knew about these two very flawed people I'm referring to. :) I’m actually confused what to say about this novel. It is weird, disturbing but at the same time intriguing and definitely something which you won’t put down too easily. The son of the victim killed 19 years ago, Ryoji's eyes have been dark and emotionless since the childhood incidence. He loathes getting close with other people. He started to get involved in shady businesses like housewife prostitution rings and game bootlegging when he was a student. He is a very astute man who possesses professional software skills. He loves to use vintage scissors of his since childhood and is very good at paper cutting. (The English translation by Alexander Smith renamed him Ryo Kirihara for reasons unknown.)This book truly is a masterpiece! If you’re a fan of thrillers and anything related to Japan, I highly recommend this book. A Midsummer’s Equation, with Detective Galileo from The Devotion of Suspect X, is due in early 2016. The author’s previous book, Malice, was one of our top books of 2014 and you’ll find more Japanese crime fiction here.

If you really ask yourself this: "Why do they have to commit crime over and over again? To cover their sins?" -- Actually, children can't blame for their actions when they respond to anything. I mean, THEM. Why? They are only children. And their experiences leads to a traumatic situations that if they've been found out, they will do the same thing to cover it again. It's like "Defense Mechanism". Hhhhmm.. Am I right? :As the story progresses, a lot of characters get introduced. It might be a little overwhelming at first, but everything comes together eventually just like different pieces in the puzzle fit to show the whole picture and in the end, you’re left gasping for air at what you see! The shifting point of views among the different characters kept the tension alive. The story kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, making me feel all sorts of feels and caused me to question everything I’ve ever known! Sorry about the rambling. Now, I wouldn’t like to take up any more of your time. Please enjoy the read. What? You are having doubts about reading the book? Are you crazy? This is an essential read! Journey under the midnight Sun is mixture of obsession, voyeurism, love, trust, betrayal and has been narrated so vividly. Just imagine all the parameters combined with mystery what would be the impact. Higashino leaves behind the increasingly weighty cases of Detective Galileo ( A Midsummer’s Equation, 2016, etc.) for an even more daunting stand-alone that traces the fallout of an unsolved murder through nearly two decades. In general, Journey Under The Midnight Sun is a structurally fascinating book. Though the story is almost entirely focused on these two characters, we only ever get to experience them, in passing, through the eyes of the medley of characters that get caught up in their machinations. It’s how Higashino maintains the mystery, with each new character offering a couple of new insights into what’s going on, but it’s all one step removed, and only ever contributes to one elaborate jigsaw puzzle. For the longest time the picture simply doesn’t form. It is almost frustrating because, again, Journey Under The Midnight Sun is a very long book, but the delayed gratification in finally understanding the full picture is all the more worthwhile for it.
