It's been so long since I have smelled the original I can't tell you the exact differences other than the original pre 2012 seemed to have more depth. Citrus, Lavender and Tobacco working harmoniously making this Fougere come across alluring, seductive and sexy. I actually think the newer formulation is better because of the ever so slight increase in versatility and richness that naturally comes along with adding more woods and sweetness to a fragrance. This is a true 90's holdover (like Acqua Di Gio), but in my mind it's a classic, even though the scent doesn't last as long as some would like. This scent is pretty nice, but like I said citruses are not a fav for me, but this one has grown on me a bit.

The heart notes reveal a harmonious combination of lavender, sage, and pepper, while the base notes offer a warm and enticing blend of tobacco, cedar, and tonka accords.I could compare it to other neroli based fragrances like Neroli Portofino Forte or even Dunhill Icon, but it takes a different turn.

Grapefruit, Bergamot, Sicilian Mandarin, and Juniper are the top notes; Pepper, Rosemary, and Brazilian Rosewood are the middle notes; while Incense, Musk, and Oakmoss are the base notes. After maybe 30-60 minutes, it’s almost all lavender and that flowery sage, slight pepper and slight slight tobacco. The result delivered is a well-behaved, traditional, conservative spring'er, like a "daddy" family guy, etc. I barely detect the lavender in the mid because my olfactory receptors are still recovering from the assault they endured in the opening by that floor cleaner citrus "note.

I'm not sure if my bottle is categorized as 1994 pour homme or 2013 pour homme (the bottle is exactly the same, but its cap is the same to 1994 version. It's similar to late 80s/early 90s peers such as Paco Rabanne's XS, Calvin Klein's Eternity for Men, and Chanel's Platinum Egoiste although there's certainly plenty of differences between all of these and I'm not asserting that they're anywhere near identical. The bad news is that I seem to remember this being stronger than it is now and I’m pretty sure it had better longevity back in the day.Nonetheless, performance seems to be fine, and it will still smell great on a warm sunny day, but it definitely ain't the same.

Each perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne or Eau de Solid is made with fragrance oils and alcohol. I have never once smelled any of the notes that are listed, no citrus, no tobacco, no tonka bean, no lavender. The neroli, lavender and other notes combine to provide this very clean, high end detergent vibe (like nice hotel bedsheets) underscored by the wood and tobacco that adds some heft and masculinity to the whole mix.
