Noi’s dad said it’s hard to say goodbye to your friend, but he will make things alright between them. Benji studied animation at university, and has since worked on a diverse array of projects, from picture books and animated short films to music videos, commercials and title sequences.

This story appears to show the life of a (possibly) single father and his son which is different from many other representations of single parent households. It's always humbling to see how children approach books: slowly, delightedly, inspecting every aspect of the illustrations for details and connections. They are all there but you have to really look, which is great fun and a fantastic skill for children to develop.My only role, apart from having this and a few other awesome books in my classroom and allowing for some autonomy in how students read, was helping out with the pronunciation of 'Noi’. There are two cups on a tray on the floor so it looks like he has made himself and the whale a drink, with chocolate chip biscuits.
