Type of Record Cleaner: Record Cleaning Machine | Pros: Improves record cleaning results and makes light work of batch cleaning | Cons: The vent position on the smaller VC-E could’ve been better placed

Drip stand (drying stand) with collection tray for up to 15 LPs or singles (slides into the case after use). At risk of sounding like a broken record (pun intended), we’re big fans of the GrooveWasher record cleaning kits here at Sound Matters. Their flagship G2 record cleaning fluid is our go-to day-to-day record cleaning fluid. Some features of the Tonar Knosti Disco-Antistat Ultraclean: The cleaning time can be conveniently adjusted to the degree of soiling of the record, supported by a functional display. A clearly visible progress indicator informs about the cleaning status at a glance. I love the company’s ethos and commitment to the vinyl format and its continuous pursuit of a better record listening experience. It’s safe to say, they’ve not rested on their laurels. NOTE: G2 Fluid is a light cleaner, by design. Multiple cleanings may be necessary. If you hear pops or the stylus plows out the gunk, clean again. Take your time; patience will be rewarded.”Add ten drops of G-Sonic concentrate to a gallon jug of distilled water. Replace the cap and shake for at least five seconds to mix. Add the mixed solution to your ultrasonic tank and proceed to clean your vinyl records per your desired methodology. This one ounce bottle of G-Sonic will make up to 60 gallons of ultrasonic bath. Some vinyl cleaning fluids on the market are plain distilled water with limited cleaning action. Others have a high level of alcohol which can harm vinyl records. Some leave a layer in the microgroove that reduces sound fidelity. These microscopic bubbles implode with such force that contaminants adhering to surfaces are dislodged. This product is intended for hard surfaces only. Using this product on skin, eyes or clothing can cause irritation and is not recommended. Do not drink . Non-flammable. Environmentally non-hazardous.

The drying cycle worked fairly well, but a few droplets of water did remain on the surface. I dried the last couple of drops with a microfiber pad, but for me, this shows that a ten-minute drying cycle is a requirement. I struggle to see how five minutes would be enough. Cleaning Results: with added Surfactant On first visual inspection, the record looked significantly better. However, some of the stubborn surface grease/finger marks were still present.Next up we tried the suede microfiber pad, which I believe GrooveWasher has produced for some time now, but it’s new to me. Notes:Pro-quality record cleaning system from Dutch vinyl specialists Tonar. Ultrasonic cleaning aims to remove dust and dirt without damaging the grooves. Highly effective, gentle care for 7-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch records. This new model has further improved on the original with non slip rubber feet, an enlarged label sealing cup with hand crank and a maximum filling line mark. Secondly, over time, these products start to lose their consistency in staying together as a complete gel ball. Eventually, they can flake away, leaving gel on the record surface. They’re a handy accessory for cleaning dust off your turntable in challenging to reach gaps, but don’t use them directly on your records. At Sound Matters, we use the compact Pro-Ject VC-E vacuum record cleaning machine in combination with GrooveWasher record cleaning fluids with great results.

It’s nice to see GrooveWasher’s continued commitment to developing new tools that complement their cleaning fluids and we can’t wait to test the new G-Sonic ultrasonic cleaning surfactant (watch this space). Ultrasonic cleaning works through high-frequency sound waves transmitted through liquid to scrub clean the surface of immersed parts. The high-frequency sound waves agitate the liquid solution, and cause the 'cavitation' of the solution's molecules. Cavitation means that bubbles are formed when sonic energy creates a void (or cavity) which gets trapped as a bubble in the liquid. Traditionally designed to clean difficult to reach crevices on keyboards, these products (in theory) sink into the record groove, pulling out dust and dirt.Disco-Antistat Ultraclean Concentrate, works deep into the groove and cleans your records gently and thoroughly even from stubborn dirt. Borrowing a concept from the computer accessories industry, numerous companies have released gel-based vinyl record cleaning kits.
