The above content is available in the regular weekly edition of League Express, on newsstands every Monday in the UK and as a digital download. The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA, CHY 8510) is the only organisation of its kind in the country. Born in Oldham and known affectionately as 'Sir Kev', Kevin Sinfield retired in 2016 as an idol of the Leeds Rhinos' golden years and as a former England captain.

The plan for our fourth challenge, the '7 in 7 in 7 Challenge' is to run 7 ultra marathons in 7 cities in 7 days with an extra mile each day that will show our support for the MND community. We know the human body can adapt remarkably to physical stress but these runs were gobsmacking distances, bonkers challenges to normal folk. The Extra Mile tells how Sinfield set about raising money to combat motor neurone disease, the appalling condition that has gripped his former Leeds Rhinos teammate and best pal, Rob Burrow. A rare memoir where his achievement that first made him famous (rugby), aren’t the majority of the book. His quiet, calm, committed leadership makes people want to support him and we are all doing that as he supports Rob Burrow and everyone living with MND' Clare Balding 'The friendship between Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow gives you faith in humankind' Sir Chris Hoy. The weather has not been kind to us for the past few days and it is becoming tougher and tougher on the legs, but we’re now over half way with Dublin, Brighton and London to go.

It’s a fabulous read which gives you a look into the world of the Rugby League and what it can do and does for their friend and colleague . My worry is that in 20 years there’s no rugby left and society has a much bigger problem with, for example, obesity. The extraordinary memoir of the sporting icon, devoted friend and fundraising hero who has inspired the nation in his fight against MND. If the coach is willing to run whatever distance he has to run to fight a disease, why shouldn’t players run hard for 80 minutes? The only reason I didn't feel I could give a 5 star rating is because having personally ran the Leeds Marathon myself - seeing Sinfield and Burrows run the marathon together and then Kevin carrying Rob over the finish line - this felt like a better and more fuller end to this chapter of Kevin's life so far. But in recent years has shown heroism of a very different kind through his selfless and extraordinary fundraising for motor neurone disease (MND), the terminal illness that has affected his best mate and former teammate Rob Burrow.

Marathons on successive days in wind and rain, run 101 miles in a day or seven ultra-marathons in a week? The fear that rugby could one day cease altogether as a contact sport has not been expressed before by someone of Sinfield’s standing. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday honours for his efforts, along with the Freedom of Leeds and a special BBC Award for his fundraising. We played three 20-minute blocks and I spent the whole hour playing as well as I could but also encouraging everyone around me. Told with Sinfield's characteristic warmth, dry wit and inspirational leadership, The Extra Mile is the story of an astonishing life, of an enduring friendship, of perseverance against the most difficult of challenges, and of a remarkable, humble human being who has defied the odds.Sinfield will start on Friday, December 1, running between Leeds and York, and finish on Thursday, December 7, in London, going from Twickenham to the Mall. I’m running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May 2024 (my first marathon), so it was Kevin’s fundraising challenges, and his MND charity work, as well as his magnificent friendship with Rob that I was most interested in reading about. Thank you for supporting us; together we can make a difference to the lives of people with motor neurone disease. Your donations will help the great work Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and My Name'5 Doddie Foundation do.

Kevin Sinfield and team are fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.Sinfield became the first rugby league player to be nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, finishing in second place behind Andy Murray in 2015. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. We support NHS staff to deliver the best care for over a million patients and their families each year. Kevin meets some of the people with MND he has helped and inspired along the way and speaks openly about his motivation and how he’s changed as a person. He was knocked out cold twice as a player but, in reference to the ongoing legal action by former players, says: “I’m not inclined to retrospectively challenge a sport when I’m not sure the sport knew the risks or consequences.
