Rhubarb and ginger gin is hugely popular and we can see why - as it’s completely delicious! The good news is that it is also super easy to make this sweet, fruity treat at home! I thought this sounded horrible, as I don’t by and large like banana flavoured things (although conversely I do like banana bread) BUT I really loved it with ginger ale. It has just a hint of banana afterwards much like the chocolate orange gin has just a hint of chocolate. A winner in my book. Would like a big bottle of this one. Honestly, we would definitely not use most of the beautiful craft gins we know or send to our Craft Gin Club members for this process, as the added ingredients will hide (and spoil) the distilleries’ delicate flavours. So taste the gin at intervals, and once you’re happy with the flavour, filter out all the botanicals using a sieve. If there’s some sediment left in the liquid, use some muslin or a coffee filter to strain it again. We like to use discarded chopping board fruit which would otherwise go to waste to make dehydrated fruit garnishes as well as infusions. These purple bananas are not used to make alcohol. He claims that their flesh is also pink. Photo Credit: Author a b "80 people die of methanol-laced gin in Uganda". The Gazette (Montreal). 23 April 2010. Archived from the original on 27 April 2010 . After Ugandan independence in 1962, the government of Uganda passed the Enguli Act of 1965, which was designed to encourage local producers of enguli to supply their produce to the distillery factory, in addition to stipulating that moonshining could only be done with government-issued licenses; this was done so the gin industry in Uganda could be regulated and taxed by the government. Furthermore, those who received their licenses from the Ugandan government were directed to sell their enguli to the distillery. When the factory received shipments of enguli, they used them in the production of Uganda Waragi. [5] Our ‘TOP BANANA’ Banoffee Premium Gin is classically led by Juniper with Coriander, Angelica and Almond perfectly balanced with delicate bursts of Banana with subtle hints of smooth Toffee. Each bottle is wax sealed and our 20cl & 70cl bottles are lovingly hand stamped with our bee emblem.

Strain the liquid to remove the bananas, making sure to squeeze out every drop of vermouth. Pour the vermouth into a sterilised bottle.Beware of leaving it too long and over-infusing the mixture, though - in the same way that a cup of tea with the teabag left in too long can taste horrible, so too can flavoured gin! [11] Deaths in Kamwenge went from five to nine after four people died on 21 April. [11] Two people were hospitalised at Kamwenge's Ntara Health CentreIV and five were hospitalised at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. [11] VICE, a news outlet known for " immersion journalism" devoted an episode of their web series Fringes to the process of making and distributing Waragi. The episode also covered the cultural significance of Waragi in Uganda, with reporter Thomas Morton imbibing various distillations of the traditional beverage. [12] That’s not completely untrue - there is a type of gin called “compound gin” that you can make in your kitchen with a bottle of vodka and whatever botanicals you feel like adding. But for an even easier “cheat’s” take on flavoured gin, try one of our ‘ginfusions’ below.

To simply enjoy this decadent home comfort, simply top 50ml gin with ginger ale and garnish with a fresh orange wedge. The Bananaman, as he calls himself, told us that there are 30 different varieties of bananas in Uganda and that they had 15 of them growing on the property. He doesn’t use all of them to make banana juice, though. The banana juice goes on to become beer, wine or gin, depending on the process that it is put through, so the bananas used for that are specific and come from a recipe of certain types that his father started many years ago.People in Uganda now drink the harsh gin and authorities overall ignore the law and do not enforce it regularly. It is sold in shops and bars across Uganda and a distilled version is sold overseas. The product that is sold overseas is double and sometimes triple distilled from the alcohol that village distillers make for the factories in Uganda. When it is distilled, flavors are added and many impurities and dangerous parts of the alcohol are filtered out. [4] Incidents [ edit ]
