Having barely escaped the battle for Reach, the crew of the Pillar of Autumn is forced to make a jump into slipspace in hopes of evading the vast alien alliance hell-bent on wiping out humanity. But their destination brings them to an ancient mystery and an even greater struggle.

The earliest recorded stories of floods appear in the literature of Mesopotamia – the flood-prone territory of modern-day Iraq that the Greeks called the “land between the rivers”. “Ever the river has risen and brought us the flood, / the mayfly floating on the water,” says one couplet in The Epic of Gilgamesh, which encapsulates the idea of flooding as seasonal and sustaining. Yet it is also profoundly destructive. In an early version of the poem, inundation brings death into the world. Before it, men could die “from acts of violence, from disease and otherwise at the will of the gods, but not naturally from old age”, writes Andrew George in his introduction to the Penguin Classics edition. “From the time of the Deluge onwards, death is to follow life as a matter of course.” The final version of Gilgamesh contains all the ingredients of the Noah myth: the deluge sent by a vengeful god; the righteous man who rides out the rising waters in an ark; the birds sent to look for land. Floods and storms would be read as confirmation of divine ill will for thousands of years. Uncertain Doom: Like the game, the book ends with John and Cortana not being able to find any other survivors of Halo's destruction; the answer to whether these other survivors even exist is only revealed in Halo: First Strike. Because of the extensive work undertaken to produce this historical document, the impact of the 2019 Fishlake flood has now been permanently recorded for posterity. Stephen Baxter is a prolific author, and it shows in a number of his works - they are very Clarkian, taking an interesting idea (in this case a vast planet drowning flood) and following it to it's conclusion. As a way of thanking the people and agencies who helped them, as well as raising funds for communities worst affected, the people of Fishlake decided to document their experiences in the form of a book.Halo: The Flood is the second Halo book, and was written by William C. Dietz in 2003. It is a novelization of Halo: Combat Evolved which goes into detail about not just the Master Chief's escapades during the original game, but those of his fellow humans (including the ODSTs) and the Covenant as well.

What a devastating and epic novel. Flood is the story of planetary catastrophe, of a titular flood that subsumes human civilization. Glory Hound: Major Silva very much wants glory for himself and his ODSTs. This ends up nearly getting the entire human race infected with the Flood when Silva tries to bring home a Covenant ship with Flood still on it, all just to gain himself and the ODSTs recognition and awards. It starts out as almost a fantasy as flood waters the world over start to rise. Each major section of the book starts with a map showing the changes to the world as the sea level creeps up and up. But the science it, as is typical of Baxter, quite real, quite believable and all rather scary.Gender Bender: An ODST called Parker accompanies John on his mission to rescue Captain Keyes; they change from a he to a she between scenes. This was fixed in the 2010 edition, in which Parker is a male throughout. Kenneth Scott created the cover art used for the 2010 edition of the novel, and it has been reused for every edition since.

Rare Diamond confirms that Earth's mantle holds an ocean's worth of water". Scientific American. 12 March 2014 . Retrieved 13 March 2014. Badass Normal: Sergeant Marvin Mobuto, who was Spark's first attempt to get someone to get through the Library. He managed to make it pretty far in before getting killed, and he wasn't a Spartan super-soldier, just a regular guy. The Chief makes it a point to show his respects to this soldier who he never met, precisely because he was able to survive that long in the Library.Firstly, copies of the book were gifted to the numerous individuals, businesses and organisations who came to the aid and assistance of Fishlake residents. In addition, several copies were also donated to libraries, including the British Library and the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum as well as to local schools.
