You can change the alert volume and type for every single warning. There are eight to choose from, with the lowest three being less intrusive beeps rather than wailing sirens. I’ve driven around for a few days, hastily seeking out speed cameras – which is quite a surreal experience, which I don’t think I’ll repeat again. I wanted to test how far in advance the alarm triggered prior to reaching the camera, and without getting scientific, the alarm seemed to consistently set off about 200 metres prior (when travelling at 30mph), and approx 400 metres when travelling on the motorway. I love how smart they were, so accounting for different speeds to ensure all drivers are given proportionate time to react and prepare. Ever been caught by a sneaky speed camera that you were unaware of? Chances are, the majority of us can say yes to that. It would be good if they could tap into Waze or another system to cover mobile cameras more accurately or even send you alerts to confirm if a camera is still there or not.

What it can't do well at all however, as least in the UK, is mobile speed traps. It relies on other users pressing a button to record the location of a speed trap in much the same way that Waze relies on other Waze users to report them. The difference is that Waze has absolutely loads of users and Saphe seemingly has very few. So in reality Waze almost always knows about a mobile speed trap and Saphe almost never does. If only Saphe could tap in to Waze's data. Alerts are actually delivered via your mobile smartphone, which uses its GPS to detect your location and speed while the Saphe One+ effectively acts as a Bluetooth speaker with added flashing lights for the app. This makes for very simple operation, and many drivers appreciate not having any additional touch screens to distract them from the road. Over the past years, in-car technology has come a long way. Many cars now come with cruise control or even an adaptive cruise control as standard. In terms of our main matter here, it isn’t as easy to fit as some of the others, but the Aura speed trap database is good and it’s certainly not the most expensive. For European speed alerts a Here® database is included. The display is very clear (a green ring around your current speed if you’re not in trouble). The real question is the relative value of the device, even if you are looking for a dash-cam, and although the G-force is enough to turn on the dash-cam, the GPS can be a little slower to get the location right for the speed database. You can change the time before you’re alerted on the accident and congestion alerts, but the speed camera ones remain fixed. Apparently the battery will last around two years, and with the CR2450 being cheap enough to replace, you should have the One+ for several years. Our range of speed camera detectors are tested to perform, and all come with our Halfords seal of approval. They’re suitable for cars, vans, LGVs and HGVs and are simple and easy to fit at home. While all of our speed camera detectors can be used in the UK, you should use caution when driving abroad as they may be illegal. The Snooper looks like a traditional portable satnav device, and clearly displays your current speed alongside the actual speed limit on its clear, 5in touchscreen; here the emphasis is clearly on prevention.

If you spot a speed camera, press the blue button on the right, with a camera icon. Simply, this warns others behind you that they should probably slow down. You are allowed to use a radar detector under UK law. There were mutterings from the government that they could be banned, but no legislation has been presented so far.On here, it can show you alerts for speed cameras (fixed and mobile), traffic, and possible incidents ahead like accidents. The addition of a screen means it can also show the speed limit for the upcoming camera; this can be handy if you haven’t been paying attention to the speed limits—Tut tut. We at MyCar Heaven were recently given the exciting opportunity to touch, test and enjoy the range of traffic alarms, courtesy of Saphe. We regularly enjoy reviewing car-related products, all whilst staying objective to the facts, features, and benefits. I like using Waze, but one thing that bothers me is the way it doesn't warn you about speed cameras unless you're already over the speed limit. I'd rather be warned anyway so that I can make sure I don't accidentally drift over the speed limit by the time I go through it. To be honest that's never actually happened to me, but I'd still like to be warned so I can make sure.
