There were parts of this book that were so terrifying, so utterly unlike anything I have read, my eyes were literally bulging out of their sockets at the description of perfectly horrifying events. There were too many ideas, too few characters and something else that bothered me: abuse to animals. And while I do not need to like every character, any character, actually, this went above and beyond.

In the near future, humanity faces a terrible disease nicknamed "the 'Gets," a condition that causes people to forget little things like anniversaries, then big things like breathing. And while I will absolutely 100% NOT read The Troop by Cutter, I must admit, I have an itch to read Little Heaven because my twisted curiosity wants to know how that works out.

Not that I'm putting myself in their league, no way no how, but I'm just saying that was the idea behind the name. I give “The Deep” by Nick Cutter a 4/5 as it was a very good read that had everything you’d want in a horror novel and then some. The Deep is Nick Cutter’s follow up to his first novel, The Troop - you know, the one that scared Stephen King.

A primitive gelatinous substance which Clayton has dubbed "Ambrosia" has been discovered on the ocean floor and promises a cure for every human disease, including the 'Gets, as well as immortality. Cutter reels you in slowly, a bit at a time, you manage to swallow some pretty foul tasting medicine but you keep going, venturing forward-- and then, when you're nice and hooked in the lip-he rips you the rest of the way through the book! The ending was decent but I was expecting a lot more to truly make this a perfect 5/5 for me as “The Troop” was because that novel is horror perfection. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered -- a universal healer, from initial reports. To read more about the site or if you want a graphic to link to us, see the about page for more details. The troop consists of Scoutmaster Tim Riggs (a middle-aged man and the town physician), Max (a mild mannered boy and best friend of Ephraim), Ephraim (nicknamed Eef, a boy prone to violent outbursts), Newt (a quiet, "nerdy" boy who is quite intelligent), Kent (a bold and tenacious boy prone to forcing his leadership among others), and Shelley (a deeply disturbed psychopathic boy). The book jacket acknowledges that The Deep borrows from The Abyss and The Shining, and others have noted it all uses elements of The Thing and Aliens.

John Hawkins is counting down his last days as chief of police on the Lone Crow Reservation in the lonely, frigid woods of the Yukon. We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads. The Deep reminded me of movies like Saw because I feel like there is a tipping point when something becomes torture porn, not horror. And if we’ve learned anything from horror books and movies, we know that the odds for a sexy rendezvous are not beyond reason. Following the scent of rot, the boys find a small cave they believe to contain Shelley and hopefully the spark plugs.

Starting off slowly, it hinders your ability to remember where you parked or where you left your wallet. He remembers his mother’s abuse and an incident when a stinging millipede got stuck in Zach’s onesie. Just a note: the Trieste in this novel is probably a reference to the Trieste bathyscaphe, which in 1960 reached the deepest part of the ocean (the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench). You know, I think I’m going to take Casey and Nicole’s advice (added to yours) and pass on this one.
