Terror in the Aisles, Portage Theater, Chicago - 13 and 14 July 2012, with Russell Cherrington - a second screening added, so both 7:30pm (Fri) and 12am (Sat) At this point, we and Clive and Mark need to again thank everyone who has been moved to support Nightbreed so eloquently. That passion has not been wasted and has motivated a studio to spend time and effort looking to rescue the lost work of filmmakers who shared a heavenly vision of monsters... We've not given up all hope... UPDATE - 6 February 2010 a b "Q&A session with Clive Barker & Peter Atkins". 5th Annual LA Times Festival of Books April 29th, 2000. Clivebarker.com . Nightbreed: The Enduring Appeal of a Horror Classic Nightbreed: The Enduring Appeal of a Horror Classic

Bushman, David. Conversations With Mark Frost: Twin Peaks, Hill Street Blues, and the Education of a Writer. Fayetteville Mafia Press, 2020, p. 83. But it was David Cronenberg who stole the show as the button eyed killer, Dekker. Already a horror legend behind the camera, Cronenberg delivered a manic performance that really set the tone for the film. Dekker was the ultimate human monster and the perfect antithesis to the real monsters of Midian. He was the beast even the beasts rejected and Cronenberg made Dekker one of the genre’s most chilling killers. Barker said about what Cronenberg brought to Nightbreed: Theatrical Cut: This is the theatrical release, reshot and edited in a way that skewed it toward a slasher film, which was not Clive Barker’s intention. This was originally available on VHS/Laser Disc, and then a bare-bones DVD in North America in 2002. It was also called “Cabal” in an Italian release, but don’t mistake that for the Cabal Cut, which we’ll talk about a little later. At the time of its release, the film was a commercial and critical failure. In several interviews, Barker protested that the film company tried to sell it as a standard slasher film, [3] and that the powers-that-be had no real working knowledge of Nightbreed 's story. [4] Since its initial theatrical release, Nightbreed has become a cult film. [5] [6]

Epic-Con Ohio: Geekfest, Dayton - 25 October 2014, with Simon Bamford, Anne Bobby, Chris Mc Corkindale. Making Monsters, a documentary on the film's creature designs, featuring special makeup designer Bob Keen(42' 11")

Morgan Creek: "So I have a bit of sad news to relay. After MUCH digging, hunting and trying our best to unearth where (if at all) the missing Nightbreed footage might be, we've come up empty handed. Therefore, that VHS that was screened at the convention is the ONLY footage that exists of a director's cut." Monsters in the Closet: Homosexuality and the Horror Film (Inside Popular Film) by Harry M. Benshoff, 1997. [8] We're trying to get some fests this year. We're probably going to see some theatrical stuff and it looks like we're going to get a DVD release, if not the end of this year then early next year." In 2021, The A.V. Club 's Charles Bramesco also examined the presence of queer themes in the film's director's cut, writing that some of its homoerotic subtext was initially removed when executives at 20th Century Fox demanded that the film be trimmed during its post-production. [14] Bramesco argued, "They were blind to the subtext of this community as a home for misfits, where the placeless Boone—who doesn't seem all that interested in sex with his torch-singing girlfriend—can find an accepting family. The director's cut allows us more time with the creatures and ups their number, emphasizing that they're only fearsome to those afraid of difference." [14] Production [ edit ] Development [ edit ] The score was composed by Danny Elfman and conducted by Shirley Walker, who also wrote the additional cue "Charge of the Berserkers" for the film's climax and received an onscreen credit. Elfman said of his score: "Once again it was time for me to stretch out... Combining dark/fun/sweet/tribal all into one. The great joy in the score for me, other than working for Clive Barker, was being able to use the children's voices and a whole slew of ethnic drums and instruments together with an orchestra, in an attempt to bring a unique musical tone to the film". [31] Barker said "Danny is an extraordinary talent. The most uncompromised portion of that entire movie is the score". [32]Now all we need is somebody to fund the reconstruction of what was always intended to be Celebration of the Shamanic Outsider. When Nightbreed was released the only support came from the gay press. But the movie seems to have found a broader audience. Nightbreed's about outsiders. And if the Inside is grey fat hamburgers and eye candy I'll stay outside with the monsters. Scream Factory Facebook – Final Specs For Nightbreed: The Directors Cut Revealed!". Facebook.
