Description

It was so very rushed and had these leaps between scenes and odd conversations that were just confusing . If you like enemies to lovers, the arranged marriage trope, insta-sexual attraction, a feisty dagger-wielding female MC, and vampires/witches/gods, then you’ll probably enjoy this book. Aside from Isolde’s worries about how her father will perceive her post-marriage to Adrian, she spends the rest of her time being torn between her loyalty to saving “her people” from monstrous vampires and thinking about getting Adrian naked (not that I blame her 👀). But Isolde goes from hating Adrian with a passion (supposedly) to sitting on his face in a matter of hours, and from being disgusted by the notion of letting him drink her blood to but will I like it, though?

If a refund or reimbursement is payable to you, we will transfer the money using the same method originally used by you to pay for your purchase. Firstly, there’s a reincarnation trope in here, and I felt like by the middle of the book I realized what was going on. With two opposing goddesses playing mortals and vampires like chess pieces against one another, Isolde is uncertain who her allies are in the vampire stronghold of Revekka. She is a warrior first and a queen second, she isn’t afraid to take action and ask for approval later. Also, as a romance/erotica, I personally would have liked to have seen a bit more will they/won't they to drag out the tension.Things get even more complicated and tough for Isolde when she realizes that there is an enormous sexual tension between Adrian and her and that they cannot seem to keep their hands off each other, even though she hates herself for wanting him. This was frustrating because who doesn’t love that moment in a story when all the pieces come together and things finally make sense. Yeah I saw it had been a while, but I’m more of a consumer than a poster on insta so no judgment xD I wasn’t sure where else to ask because I didn’t want to post a spoilery comment!

Adrian's kingdom is in turmoil as he struggles to reclaim his birthright from the clutches of dark forces.Isolde goes from completely rejecting vampires to accepting them and their way of life in the span of a few pages. I had forewarning so I knew to expect the smuttiness but fair warning: if you’re not into horny queens and lots of forbidden vampire sex, then this will definitely not be for you! Isolde is a "thick" girl who cannot fit to slim standards, has been trained to fight and mostly uses knives and daggers.

I actually think it was more similar to A Shadow in the Ember… but either way, I felt like they are all a little similar in that they involve vampires and gods and are in the new adult genre, but the storylines and characters are still unique. And it became even worse when in chapter 2 as she was just thinking "between my thighs" and "my breasts" and then she's touching her "preening" clit?Though I was on the fence with Isolde’s character (come to that later), she didn’t ask questions incessantly and I thought the way we learned about Cordova’s true history alongside her felt pretty organic.

As I said before, while frustratingly stubborn and slow in accepting that some things are not as she thought, or in accepting her feelings towards the vampire she is to made to marry to save her people, St. It’s easy to judge her for not being game with everything that she learns and sees faster, but when you take a beat to consider all of her context and the constant sense of being a traitor to those she is actually sacrificing her values for, you can truly appreciate the author’s character work. And once the sex part is over, don’t ask them to sit and talk seriously because of course, suddenly all feelings-related discussion is just impossible to have. But she is also compassionate to a fault and struggles to learn that duty to her people first might not always be the right course. This is one of the most frustrating “tropes” (and I say trope because that’s literally what it is at this point) to read about.

Isolde is a victim of patriarchal womanhood and it frustrates me that plots like this are still being written—we’re well past the days of stories like this. So to wrap up, this is not the kind of book everyone might enjoy for the above stated level of sexual content, but it is also a story full of mythical monsters, vampires who may not be the villains they seem, ancient curses and mysteries, as well as a solid cast of side characters that prop up a main duo that has awesome potential to become the power couple to rule them all, especially in the sequel coming out this December. But during their journey back to Adrian's land, Isolde learns that there is a man behind the monster and the truth about the world she lives in has been twisted by magic and lies.
