You could probably by cheaper kettles than this if you were just looking for something cheap and functional. I do appreciate that this is as long as War and Peace, but this is a really really great kettle once you have got over the taste issue ( but it may not be a problem to everyone ) and the spout issue is minor, but it's an annoyance.
