Father and Son" was previously recorded by Cash as "Father and Daughter" for his 1974 album The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me. the outer box is missing, but the records look in mint condition and both books were in mint condition.

Not for allowing a musical icon to end his career and life by recording some of the best music ever, but because there are so many excellent recordings here that should have been released during Cash's lifetime. Yes, I know the set was actually compiled while Cash was still alive, and the booklet features his comments about the tracks, but while some performances are clearly rough and unfinished, others frankly deserved to be included on any of the four American-series CDs released before Cash died. The recordings, which run the stylistic gamut from stark balladry to punchy rockabilly to heartfelt gospel to classic covers, offer a stunning encapsulation of Cash's wide-ranging musical vision, and provide a fitting epitaph for his iconic career. With each track being essential listening, there is refreshingly no filler material to pad out the collection. Through their inconsistencies and quirks (and, more often than not, brilliance), they shed light on how Cash's final records were shaped, edited and produced.Note: All tracks previously released, although "Thirteen" features an additional verse that was omitted from its original album release. My Mother's Hymn Book is a collection of Christian spiritual songs and hymns that Cash originally learned from his mother while growing up. Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description. Unearthed is divided into five thematic sections (it was a five-CD set) with Who’s Gonna Cry focusing on acoustic solo recordings, Trouble In Mind slanted towards electric performances (this section features some guest performances from the likes of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Carl Perkins) and Redemption Songs another acoustic collection, with duets with Joe Strummer, Fiona Apple, Nick Cave and Glen Campbell. But even if I had also purchased My Mother's Hymn Book as a standalone, the three other CDs are more than worth the money.

Over the course of five mesmerising CDs, Unearthed shows us just how Johnny Cash's now-legendary handful of recordings for American Records came to be. Knowing that Rubin was holding back tracks for V and VI, so the inclusion of further outtakes was unlikely, I would have been more than pleased for Disc 5 to have featured the complete Viper Room show from which two tracks from American I were taken. An expansive box set of material, most of it previously unreleased, recorded during the artist's graceful twilight years. There's a live version of ''Bird On A Wire'' with gorgeous strings which is better than the original.

I've heard sets of outtakes before where people take an "it is what is is" attitude and you're just thankful to have a few extra tracks to listen to even if they aren't very good. One book holds the nine vinyl records while the other is a 60-page coffee table book which contains Sylvie Simmons’ sleeve notes, Cash and Rubin’s comments on every track and plenty of photos from the recording sessions. If We Never Meet Again This Side of Heaven" was previously recorded by Cash for his 1962 album Hymns from the Heart.

Particularly on the first CD, starting with a powerful performance of ''Long Black Veil'' this feels like a one man journey through the history of American song. Tracks 6, 9 and 10 were previously recorded for Hymns from the Heart (1962); tracks 5, 11, 14 and 15 were previously recorded for Sings Precious Memories (1975); and track 7 was recorded in concert for The Survivors Live (1982).Für mich ist es jedenfalls schwieriger (vor allem wenn es um vertonte Geschichten aus der alten Bibel geht, das pack ich fast nicht), die Songs alle zu mögen. When He Reached Down His Hand for Me" was previously recorded by Cash for his 1962 album Hymns from the Heart.
