Being both commercially and critically successful upon original release, Physical Graffiti was certified 16x platinum and was hailed as one of Led Zep’s finest albums and, indeed, one of the greatest double albums ever made. Sounds audacious, but, I think it’s fair to say, pretty accurate. Christgau, Robert (12 May 1975). "Christgau's Consumer Guide". The Village Voice. Archived from the original on 22 April 2017 . Retrieved 22 April 2017. Physical Graffiti was commercially and critically successful upon its release and debuted at number one on album charts in the UK and number three in the US. [2] It was promoted by a successful US tour and a five-night residency at Earl's Court, London. The album has been reissued on CD several times, including an expansive 40th anniversary edition in 2015. Physical Graffiti was later certified 16× platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2006, signifying shipments of over eight million copies. In the Light" was recorded at Headley Grange in early 1974. It was initially called "In the Morning" and went through several rehearsals and takes to work out a basic structure. A drone / chant introduction was later added to the piece. [24] Overall, not the most ideal representation of one of the best Led Zep albums, but if one can get over its flaws, it is what it is.ARIA Charts – Accreditations – 1996 Albums" (PDF). Unfortunately, this remaster suffers from having a muffled and rolled-off high end, worse on some songs than others, but the worst part is that it's a little too trebly for my taste. I swear - I've been listening to this pressing while going about my day and going up and down the stairs a few times. I would crank the volume knob a little lower every time I went downstairs, and every next time I returned to my stereo it seemed as if it's playing at the same volume as I had it set to earlier. Yes, even at lower levels, the treble is edgy and shrill, and it's a little too hard on the ears.

Physical Graffiti was Led Zeppelin's first release on their own Swan Song Records label, which had been launched in May 1974. Until this point, all of Led Zeppelin's albums had been released on Atlantic Records, who would distribute Swan Song. The album was first announced to the press on 6 November with a planned release date of 29 November and an accompanying US tour (the band's tenth) starting in January. [43] Delays in the production of the album's sleeve design prevented its release prior to the commencement of the tour. [44] It was finally released on 24 February 1975. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it at number 70 on the magazine's list of the " 500 Greatest Albums of All Time." I myself was expecting this to be a great sounding issue but after listening I felt like it was missing something and still prefererad my older 70s issue. I thought it had a lot of detail with a clean press but for some reason sounded very flat and sterile. If you are looking for the best sounding new versions of these albums I hear that the Classic Records releases are a good choice. They are very expensive but are made by people who really care and do great mastering for vinyl. I myself am getting one and doing a blind test to see which I think sounds best between the 70s issue, 2014 remaster and 2007 Classic Records version. In the end its a good record and if you dont mind that much its just a great deal, but personally I would go for many 70s reissues that are in NM condition over this. Top 100 Albums of the 1970s". Pitchfork. Archived from the original on 25 November 2012 . Retrieved 23 November 2012. The Classic Records release by Grundman are easily superior for some albums and closer with others, they are never worse than the 2014 reissues however.Jones, Chris (2007).
