This book talks about purity culture( hence the name) and growing up as a Christian I related so much to this. Then when he said he loves her, she said it is only because he is afraid of losing her, and leave his house. I loved how this book talked about that culture and how it shaped her as an adult growing up like that. Livy: The protagonist, a shy virgin who has been stuck in the friend-zone with her best friend Cole for years. I didn't like the heroine- I hated how she put words into the H's mouth, and always got out of the situation with tears, or just generally making him feel bad?

I am all for the ginormous fuck you that this novel gives to a culture and a movement that feeds off making young girls find their worth in their purity and shame when they do anything that might threaten that. It turns out that Cole, aka the manwhore, is traumatized with some family stuff and is afraid of commitment.What I do know is that, as someone who isn’t particularly religious, this book must be the devil incarnate bc it almost sent me to church.

Makes out with her in the Uber on way back to his home and only fails to go all the way, because turned out OW eff his dad in his house and OW pulls a stop. After Livvy and Cole have sex he says some of the worst shit and when they talk about it a few days later his dumb ass blames his parent's marriage and thinks he could never be her for his stupid actions and for sleeping around and bringing girls around her. From h-s talk to her friends it is clear she knows ALL about H and many many women and even H talks to her about it (it is said h does want to hear about her friends or H escapades in detail and stops them from talking) ?Seriously, reading this story was therapeutic because it reflects many of my own experiences being raised in an evangelical home and the journey I found myself on during college to unlearn those toxic beliefs and form my own. Nothing pretty or sexy about a h who doesn’t take no for an answer; a heroine who is so blinded by her own issues that she can’t see how uncomfortable the H is with her constant begging for sex.
