And Marjane turns around, one last time, just one last moment, to see her mother crying her heart out and being helped away . If your best book is yet to come, could you please tell us about it? We'd love to hear more about it, even several sentences about where you are, and how long you think it might still take would please me, and your fans enormously! SF Said on why you should review Phoenix, the story of a boy who has a star inside him or at least one of the books on the Guardian children's fiction longlist. SF is a Guardian reviewer himself: "I've reviewed quite a few of the longlisted books for the Guardian I can tell you they're brilliant and you are going to find at least one story here that you absolutely love. And when you do tell the world about it. Write your review and make your voice heard!" https://www.booktrust.org.uk/whats-happening/blogs/2017/august/bookbuzz-author-blog-s.f.-said---the-epic-story-of-phoenix/ We even used it in Maths when we counted the most commonly occurring letters, length of words and sentences to create bar charts and different kinds of data (Cameron)

A powerful story of great scope and ambition, from an expert storyteller" – The Independent On Sunday And if you & Mili still want more - here's a list I made of my top 10 children's books of all time, a few years ago. I'd probably make a different list today, as it's impossible to fit everything into 10, but I'd recommend all of these very highly anyway! Write a joint statement from President Thorntree and King Theobroma to the people of the Human and Axxa worlds stating the war is over and how they should live in future, putting aside their differences. Definitely! There will be a third Varjak Paw book one day; see here for more information on that! But I'm currently writing a fantasy story called TYGER that I think will be my best one yet...Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy Tyger - and in the meantime, I'll do my best to answer your questions:

And have you read my Varjak Paw books yet? They might look quite different to Phoenix, being about cats rather than aliens, but deep down, I think they have a lot in common with Phoenix. If you liked Bixa, I think you'll like Holly too! We used the Seven Ways of Jalal to create our own ways of learning and behaving – they are the Seven Ways of Year 4 (Aoi): Floating Hands, Bubble Focus, Shadow Walking, Connecting Minds, Sharing Opinions, Writing Awareness and Listening Time. This is love, then, this mad and foolish and facade-full thing; we love, we put our faces on, and we sacrifice the whole of ourselves for another, we want them to live and to love and to thrive and to be themselves, to be whole and to be the best that they can be and to be the person that they should and could be and we will stop ourselves and hold ourselves and make that happen because we love them. We love them. IBBY Honours List 2016 event at Waterstones". IBBY. September 25, 2017 . Retrieved 22 January 2021.

This book explores themes such as power, fear and war in a way that would never be too overwhelming or complicated to a younger reader but it has the right level of depth and intrigue for older readers alike. For other authors, one of my all-time favourites is Ursula Le Guin, who recently passed away. I think her Earthsea books are the among the greatest children's books of all time. She wrote some incredible books for adults too! She was definitely a big influence on Phoenix, and on me in general - I wrote an article about her inspiration that you can read here: He is heading on a journey filled with both excitement and hazard, where humans and strange aliens are both deadly enemies. He is searching for solutions to end this long-lasting conflict, helped by an unusual alien warrior girl. By working together, these two people must, even though they are from different species, find a way to help save the galaxy. Together, they can save the whole universe from danger! Will they succeed in this, or will the whole galaxy face a catastrophic war… forever?

Tyger

At the risk of giving "spoilers" here, I wanted to alert parents and readers that this book has evidently jumped on the recent bandwagon of re-branding Satan (yes, literally The Devil) to make him appear sympathetic--heroic, even. (Never mind that it's also a bizarre and incongruent insertion that made a shoehorn fit into the rest of the sci-fi and astrological theme of the book at large.)
