If you're running on the moors this winter, ok they may be expensive, but seriously, I don't think there is a better shoe out there. We’d recommend looking at the size guide which shows the approximate length of each size’s insole in centimetres. During the Sedburgh race I passed a couple of people who mentioned that they were really feeling the shoe under the ankle bones as they traversed around the hill. My test run includes 1-mile of road before and after the trails and I have to say, this shoe feels wonderfully comfortable on the hard stuff despite its ‘off-road’ pedigree.

Having witnessed countless runners the year before take on the course in Mudclaw and X-Talon, it was the logical choice. However, the Mudclaw doesn’t fit as tightly or as snug as say the Salomon S-Lab Sense SG (the perfect fitting shoe for me! Fit wise, the heel locked in and has been comfortable on all runs, regardless of intensity, terrain or duration.

Precision for my relatively wide foot is great when I need it but I wouldn’t want to be running all day with my toes cramped into a shoe. It’s all very well having something that can cut through a surface, but if they take it with you, you may as well have ballet shoes in a slurry pit. Running fast on tracks, the shoe is light enough to take speed and responsive too but here the aggressive studs start to show their limitation and a faster shoe with a more linear stud pattern may respond better. Firstly the studs will feel different but you’ll be glad for them, they’re going to grip and help stop you face planting.
