Its display stands out the most, with a 6.57-inch OLED panel that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, a 300Hz touch input rate and FHD+ resolution. The phone's always-on display doesn't always work as intended, but when lit up, it's very bright and vibrant. This phone offers a premium, mirror-finish glass design and a gorgeous 6.8-inch OLED screen that means whatever you watch on it is a delight.The camera system is similarly impressive, with its telephoto lens outperforming the iPhone 13 Pro when it comes to zoom. A top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset means it's fast, too, while wireless charging at 100W means a top-up is just as rapid. The battery capacity could be a little higher for a premium phone and it's a fingerprint magnet, but other than that, the Honor Magic 4 Pro is still tremendous in almost every way. From the main screen there’s the usual Android experience and everything you see can, of course, be altered to your taste. I switched out the keyboard (I prefer the Gboard from Google) and removed the Google search widget which is in the lower-middle part of the screen here..

The Honor Magic 4 Pro was the first flagship device produced by Honor after it parted from Huawei in 2020, and it remains a resounding success to this day. What's more, given the arrival of its successor, the Magic 5 Pro, the Magic 4 Pro is now cheaper than ever. Setup Enhanced services such as WiFi+ to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data, turn on or off WiFi and obtain your location. Then there is weather service with location awareness and HiSearch for online and local searches including image driven search using the camera. With a curved-edge, 6.67-inch panel, the Honor 70 is attractive to look at, with good contrast and rich colors on display regardless of what you're doing. Elsewhere, it has great camera capabilities – you're getting a 54MP main lens and a 50MP ultra-wide lens – although we weren't hugely impressed by its 2MP depth sensor. The Honor Magic 4 Lite is respectable device for its price. It offers a sizeable 6.81-inch display that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate. It's a typical LCD display with some poor viewing angles at times, but other than that, it looks good.Our only niggle is our protective glass film was applied slightly off center, but you only notice this if look closely. Also, with the edge-to-edge display and using gestures instead of the three key navigation, you do feel the edge of the glass film when swiping from the edges (left, right or bottom) to the center. Cameras It is important to strictly use Honor authorised repair services. There’s smile capture, audio control and AI so that images are tweaked to look their best depending on what you’re taking a photo of. No HDR here from what I could see though. It is all down to the timing of the launch of the handset and when the trade ban was implemented by the U.S. Government. In May 2019 the government barred companies from working with Huawei and Honor thus stopping access to Google Mobile Services and updates. The Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro and by extension the Honor 20e was announced in China on the 21 May 2019. This and other Huawei and Honor smartphones launched on or before May 2019 were allowed to use the services and access to Google Play Store, Google Assistant and updates. There’s the usual plethora of settings, including eye comfort,smart screen resolution changing (to maintain power), colour settings – even the ability to remove the network name if you don’t want that showing. All of this (and a whole lot more) can be accessed just by sliding down from the top.. The colour is vivid, motion is sufficiently smooth and jitter free, and you can push the brightness right up when viewing outdoor. By default, video will play in a letter box fashion, but you can pinch and zoom in for a full view. You will however notice the dewdrop notch when you do that. Elsewhere, the display is TüV Rheinland certified which means it reduces blue light radiation to protect your eyesight and prevent eye strain particularly when using it in dim light.

We had such fun taking photos with the phone. The main shooter is a 24MP camera with wide aperture F/1.8 lens with Quadra CFA sensor capable of 480fps Super Slow-motion Video capture, Super Night Shots and 1.8um ISO enhancement. I should just mention that, even though Google Play is here, the Huawei AppGallery (mentioned in our earlier articles) is installed should you need it. Petal Search too. The IPS display offers plenty in way of sharpness and brightness. It has a dewdrop notch, one that I prefer to Apple’s big ugly notch. That 6.21-inch display is effectively full view, edge-to-edge safe for the slightly bigger chin (bottom) bezel. This gives the Honor 20e over 90% screen-to-body ratio. As for the details and colour, you get Full HD+ resolution at 2340 x 1080 pixels with an IPS panel. Watching Full HD 1080p video on the display is a real treat.

The second camera is an 8MP sensor with an ultra-wide angle 17mm lens and F/2.4 aperture. This allows you to capture ultra wide images such as landscape or even full body portraits close up. The effective angle is 120 degrees wide. When shooting using the ultra-wide angle lens, do not be alarmed when the framed image on the screen suffers from fish-eye effect. This will be corrected by the camera software. In a similar vein, its cameras are quite impressive with a circular arrangement offering a main 48MP sensor, 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP macro lens. A 16MP selfie front is ideal for selfie lovers. Photos are clear but not always accurate when it comes to colors, but it's still good for the price. Elsewhere, the Honor 50's main camera works well, but it's the selfie camera that provides bold imagery with natural-looking depth effects that further improve things.Everything else is fairly standard, albeit reliable, but for selfie addicts, this could be a significant selling point. There is a lot to like about the Honor20e. You may not get 5G connectivity or WiFi 6, these are features reserved for flagship smartphones but it is still nippy. Camera performance is better than expected. Low light performance gets a helping hand with Super Night mode, but only if the subject stays relatively still.This, though, is a new Honor phone which does have all the Google apps and Google Play. Basically this is because it’s been slid through as a “tweak” to the Honor 20. Oh and yes, as mentioned before, the Google Play Store is indeed here, so no need to worry about not having that. It means that all the links you find on the internet, all the normal apps you expect, will be there and it’ll work in the same way as every other Android smartphone.. We established that the mid-range Honor 20e smartphone comes with access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) core with some compromises. It is powered by the Kirin 710F 12nm chip and runs Android 9.0 (Pie) with EMUI 9.1. Both the hardware and software are a little dated, but works well together offering plenty of speed and headroom to handle multiple applications simultaneously. What is in the box We’ve looked at a number of Honor devices lately. The Honor 9X and the Honor 9A– both very good phones considering how cheap they are.
