Description

Both models have the RK3566 Quad-Core 64 bit Cortex-A55 processor which runs up to 1.8GHz. The RG353V dual boot retro gaming console has 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 32GB internal eMMC storage for the Android operating system. The RG353VS with Linux OS has 1GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Now that your SD card is configured with the file structure you want, you can copy all of your favourite games onto the new card. You can also find instructions for doing this in my Starter’s Guide for the RG353 Configure your emulators This distribution is very close to JELOS in terms of emulators being configurable and being lightweight, however, as custom development continues separately from the original OS you can expect it to start to diverge more.

A dual-boot system and plenty of built-in tools to make this a very flexible and customizable experience for numerous tastes.Be sure to setup your external controller in Emulationstation by hitting start then Configure Input. This will allow your external controller to navigate the Emulationstation menu and Retroarch based emulators I also haven't really tried N64, I understand either android or an alternate Linux OS will handle it better than the built-in OS but knowing that, I'm fully confident that it will handle it fine. The TF1 slot contains the SD card for your Linux OS. To replace this card, you’ll need to flash one of the Linux operating systems onto this new card. For this, you can use a smaller SD card of 8GB or so as it will only be used for the OS going forward. See my guide for Installing Custom Firmware (CFW) on the RG353 Unlike the RG353VS, the RG353V model has the perk of being a dual-boot system as it also runs Android 11. This means you can essentially use the console as a (very) mini tablet of sorts to browse the net or use social media while navigating with its touchscreen. But that’s not the only features that the Android system enables as you’ll also have the Android emulators accessible, in particular AetherSX2 for PS2 emulation. However, don’t expect much with the RK3566 as PS2 performance will be heavily title-dependent. I got Shadow of the Colossus running at 14fps with stuttering audio and wouldn’t recommend this device solely for PS2 emulation. The great thing about the Android OS is that you also have Android games that can be played. The RG353 does not come with the Google Play Store so you’ll have to source your apks from other places. One way to get apks is from APK Mirror and sideload your apps.

Haven't tried the android mode yet, but the Linux OS runs everything that I need so I'm really happy with it. If you're experiencing excessive audio delays (of about 1 second or more) in retroarch based emulators, try reducing the retroarch audio delay configuration by going to retroarch Settings>Audio>Output>Audio Latency (ms). It's set by default to 128. You can try reducing that to 64 or another number and see if that helps. The SD card itself is bad. The original SD card that comes with these units are of unknown quality and are most likely low quality.

Please Note

The easiest method for adding your own games to the RG353 device is to pop the TF2 card into your PC. Once the SD card it read, you should be able to easily navigate to it in your file explorer. When I'm in a game, I go to the retroarch menu and make a change and when I attempt to save the current configuration, it fails to save. Why is that happening? The RG353 has two separate SD card slots. The TF1 slot card will hold your Linux OS and all relevant files. The TF2 slot card is extra storage and can therefore be used to hold your games.

I’m not going to tell you how to source ROMs here but you can easily google it. ROMs are generally single files which contains a full image of the game you want to play which is readable by the emulator installed. The file extension can vary depending on the game system (e.g. *.nes, *.gba, *.v64). If your file is zipped (*.zip or *.7z) then make sure to unzip it first before placing it in the folder. Using the Android OSLet’s finish up by talking about the screen, and it is a lovely screen indeed. It is a 3.5-inch IPS display, with OCA lamination and 640×480 resolution. In addition to this, it has full multipoint capacitive touch capabilities, and it is very responsive, allowing for great Android navigation. You’ll recognize the overall quality as being fairly similar to recent Anbernic handhelds like the RG351MP and 351V, as well as the recent 353P, which all have very gorgeous vibrance and color. Even at its minimum brightness the beautiful display of the 353V is so much brighter than its inspiration Q. Can the mouse pointer that's always visible in the upper right corner of Drastic (NDS Emulator) be removed? A. As of the writing of this entry (11/10/2020), it can not be removed. It’s unfortunately a "feature" of the emulator for the time being. Resolved as of the 1/28/2021 update. Q. My unit doesn't seem to boot from the SD card anymore. What could be the issue? A. It could be one of the following issues: It could be that you're unit's battery is low on charge and you need to charge it. Make sure you let it completely charge. Firstly, the touchscreen is a delight to use, and helps with general Android setup, ANBERNIC has also added some shortcuts that allow you to jump between menus and switch your ABXY button layouts on the fly. Allow root to be able to login through ssh by doing sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config then scroll down to PermitRootLogin and remove the beginning hashtag (#) and set PermitRootLogin to yes. Basically it should say PermitRootLogin yes on that line.
