Kibble can be made via two manufacturing processes – either by cold-pressed extrusion, or thermal extrusion. Cold pressed kibble or nuggets are made at lower temperatures using high pressure to bind the ingredients together. Nuggets made via thermal extrusion are cooked at higher temperatures.

Battersea chief executive Peter Laurie said: “To many, Paul O’Grady was the immensely popular TV and radio presenter and comedian who lit up their screens with his razor-sharp humour and perpetual generosity and warmth. Battersea will forever remember Paul as a devoted animal lover with the biggest heart, who fell head over heels in love with every dog he met at our centres. Paul will always be associated with Battersea and we are truly saddened to have lost such a true friend and huge part of our charity.

While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients. The best dog food for adult dogs is naturally rich in protein for good muscle maintenance and contains essential fatty acids to help nourish their coat and maintain healthy eyes.

Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.Your dog should get everything they need from their food – and a high quality, complete dry dog food , such as kibble, will provide this. How is kibble dog food made? The partnership between family-owned business Burgess Pet Care and Paul O’Grady started in 2018, driven by a shared desire to create ‘a great value dog food, made with natural ingredients that dog owners can always trust’. A healthy diet for an adult dog should contain good-quality meat or fish for protein, supplemented with vegetable proteins such as soya, grains or peas. And, as your dog goes through different life stages, their nutrition needs change. A puppy needs a different blend of nutrients compared to an adult or senior dog. His tireless campaigning saw Paul recognised with an RSPCA Animal Hero Award for his outstanding contribution to animal welfare, while he once adopted a little lamb Winston from us who had been rescued from a wheelie bin.

Dogs are classed as ‘adult’ from around 18 months, although this depends on their breed. Smaller breeds tend to hit their ‘teenage’ adolescent phase earlier than larger breeds who develop more slowly. A small breed dog will often be mature by around a year old, whereas a giant breed can be two years plus before they’re classed as an adult. If you’re not sure whether your dog has reached adulthood, ask your vet for advice. The formulations Burgess uses are designed to ensure that our dog food nuggets contain the right level of nutrients after processing. What range of dog food kibble do you provide?

The chat show host, who made his precious pooches stars alongside him, developed his eponymous brand in 2018 with East Yorkshire manufacturer Burgess Pet Care. At Burgess, all of our kibble for dogs is made using thermal extrusion. The process involves grinding down a range of quality ingredients into a fine flour and mixing them together.
