Description

Its build quality is great even if it uses plenty of plastics compared to other business ultrawides from the brand. There were no cosmetic defects when it was unboxed and it looks like every piece was molded precisely. The stand is stable and firm, but the screen can slightly wobble if you accidentally nudge it. I tested the Dell S3423DWC's luminance (brightness per unit area), contrast ratio, and color accuracy using our standard test gear: a Klein Instruments K-10A colorimeter, a Murideo SIX-G signal generator, and Portrait Displays' CalMAN 5 calibration software.

CompleteCover: Service is available for personal computers, Axim PDAs, Dell branded projectors and LCD TV. CompleteCover excludes theft, loss, and damage due to fire, intentional damage, acts of God or natural disasters, animals, pets or pests. Customer may be required to return unit to Dell. This service is only available in selected countries. Dell S3423DWC monitor uses a curved IPS panel, the corners of the screen may appear slight yellowish or pinkish, especially when viewing in dark room. This is normal IPS panel behavior and typically does not affect the overall viewing performance. The stand included offers tilt and height adjustments so getting a comfortable viewing angle with it. adding swivel adjustments would have been great for multi-monitor setups, but pivoting isn’t as necessary since ultrawides were not meant for portrait use. You can use VESA mounts if you need more flexibility, but it is an unwarranted cost for typical setups. It is also great that Dell included speakers with this model this time so you don’t have to buy their proprietary mini soundbars. Its other recent releases like the Dell U3223QE only have notches for the latter, so you have to pay more despite the already expensive price tags. Display and Performance Change the color-setting mode in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD) to Graphics or Video, depending on the application. One of the highlights of the Dell S3423DWC is its connectivity layout which includes DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0 slots, and a 65-watt USB-C port with DP Alt Mode. It also has four USB 3.1 slots for your peripherals which are reserved for your mouse and keyboard. Setting it up this way allows you to utilize the monitor’s KVM functionality with multiple PCs so you don’t have to plug and unplug cables.

The built-in KVM switch allows you to control up to 2 computers from a single set of keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor. Using the front-panel buttons, select Others> Self-Diagnostic to initiate the self-diagnostic process. When you notice screen abnormalities like distortion, clarity, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade, it is always a good practice to isolate the monitor by running the Built-In Diagnostics. The DWG seems to be better in most aspects. However, the DWC has USB-C upstream/DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode with power delivery up to 65W. And it also has an in-built KVM function.Dell has been on something of a roll when it comes to launching new monitor models this year and its latest addition is an office focused curved 34-inch model with a 3440x1440 resolution. The S3423DWC as the model is called, sports a VA panel with a 300 cd/m² brightness, a 3000:1 contrast ratio and a colour gamut capable of 99 percent of the sRGB colour space. Although it's an office focused display, the good news here is that it has 100 Hz refresh rate and a 4 ms response time, which is quite unusual for its target market. AMD FreeSync is also supported, although there's no mention of the frequency range. On the home-office side, the HP E27m G4 QHD USB-C Conferencing Monitor doesn't have as wide a screen, but it boasts an even larger set of ports, including Ethernet, DisplayPort-in and DisplayPort-out for daisy-chaining multiple monitors, and a hub of four USB-A ports for connecting peripherals. Its stand offers greater height adjustment and adds swivel and pivot options. Along with stereo speakers, the E27m G4's teleconferencing features include a 5-megapixel webcam and dual microphones. Some combinations of USB Type-C to HDMI dongle and video or graphics card (GPU) are not compatible to support the YCbCr color format. Make sure that the video cable connecting the monitor to the computer is connected properly and is secure.

Monitor will not support the YCbCr color format when a USB Type-C to HDMI dongle is connected from the monitor to the PC. Dell provides a rather thin one-year warranty for the S3423DWC. Most monitor manufacturers offer three years of coverage, as Dell does for many of its other displays. Philips goes a step further than most by adding a fourth year of support. If you want to focus on gaming, either of two PCMag Editors' Choice winners, the Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor (AW2721D) or the ViewSonic Elite XG270QG, would fit the bill. Well-to-do gamers might want to spring for the Samsung Odyssey G9 with its amazing super-wide (32:9 aspect ratio) 49-inch screen. on Dell internal analysis using publicly available specs in August 2023 comparing maximum effective capacity for PowerStore 1200 and FlashArray //X20. Assumes average 4:1 data reduction for PowerStore, 5:1 for Pure Storage. Actual results vary.

Testing the Dell S3423DWC: Superb Contrast, Above-Par Brightness and Color Coverage

The Dell S3423DWC covers 99% sRGB and 88% DCI-P3 for decent vibrancy for daily use and entertainment. It is not the brand’s most accurate ultrawide, but its deltaE average of 2.64 is already acceptable unless you are editing or creating content. We feel that most users will be happy with it after a few basic tweaks like adjusting the brightness.
