Mark was DC’s art director until very recently and I love this old school spy paperback vibe he’s brought to this. Instead of feeling bad for the guy when he is diagnosed with a terminal illness, I instead felt like it was a form of karmatic justice being done. After Silva’s unauthorized hacking of the Chinese government during Hong Kong’s transition of sovereignty put MI6 in a spot of diplomatic difficulty, M allows the Chinese to capture her rogue agent in exchange for six other British prisoners. It isn’t enough for Roland King to be a misogynistic, nonchalant killer with a devil-may-care attitude, he apparently also has to be damn-near super-powered.

Now, death has come knocking at Roland's door, giving him six months tops to live before cancer takes his life. King Of Spies” is very stylish, courtesy of Matteo Scalera’s lively art, but Mark Millar’s AARP-James-Bond-with-cancer-and-a-conscience revenge tale is too cliched to keep up. And it’s not just because Brosnan looks exactly like the protagonist Roland King, with a full beard and a distinguished brand of handsomeness that is equal parts sophisticated and rugged. King of Spies' is an exciting new action-thriller from Millar that once again subverts the spy genre. Now he knows where all the bodies are buried and has nothing to lose as he turns his guns on everyone who ever made a buck as they created the mess we're in right now.

We’re really, really excited about this and will release the name of the stellar comic-book artist we’ve hired a little down the line.

I think the first time I really became aware of him as an author was when I read his Old Man Logan storyline.

Sex, gore, and violence are not the things I mainly look for in the books I read, but I also don’t avoid a title just because those things are part of the story.

Published by Image Comics, King of Spies TPB collects all four issues of the miniseries, each more maniacal than the previous. Pick this up if you like Mark Millar books or anything James Bond related, and skip if you are anyone else. Millar and Netflix are keeping the identity of the artist hidden in the dossier, but the book will be published by Image Comics. Roland King from King of Spies had no such major betrayal over the course of his career, effectively coded as a retired James Bond. Where Roland goes next may be interesting to see and if we are spared from seeing more of the immensely unlikable young Roland King, then that may help the audience get on-board with the more mature, remorseful version of the character.

In King of Spies, prize-winning journalist and bestselling author of Escape From Camp 14, Blaine Harden, reveals one of the most astonishing – and previously untold – spy stories of the twentieth century. While its protagonist may look noticeably like former James BondPierce Brosnan, Mark Millar’s King of Spies flips that franchise's formula on its head by making its hero a lethally disaffected former agent far more in the mold of Skyfall's Raoul Silva. The action-packed second issue opens with our heroine getting her first taste of the new apocalyptic world. The first issue was released Wednesday and has been a big success, with Millarworld tweeting that a huge number of retailers have sold out of copies on the first day. King of Spies follows Roland King, the world's best secret agent (think James Bond but cruder) after he is diagnosed with a terminal illness and given six months to live.

The artwork of Matteo Scalera and Giovanna Niro is one of the foremost reasons for the book's cinematic impression, where even the most brutal moments have an artistic fervor to them.Quem sabe uma hora eu faça uma análise mais acadêmica e profunda sobre isso, mas acho que encontrei o cerne da questão do Millarworld. Throughout the entire tale, Roland is fixated on his self-righteous journey until things come full circle, like a Greek tragedy. If you love Millar, you’re going to love King of Spies, and if, like me, you find him to be a bit hit or miss, I’d still recommend you check this one out. The news articles, Tweets, and blog posts do not represent IMDb's opinions nor can we guarantee that the reporting therein is completely factual. Active since the height of the Cold War, he has toppled regimes, gone toe-to-toe with other spies, seduced his way into private information, and assassinated high-value targets, turning the world into an even more dangerous place than he started with.
