The final books in the series expand the story to include others in their friend group. How Many Books are in the Hopeless Series? As opposed to the heavy content and themes from the first two books, this lighthearted read features new and unexpected love, some steamy scenes, and lots of witty banter. We also get a fair amount of Holder and Sky in this story who we already know and love from the prequels.

I must stress again the importance of reading Hopeless first as this book is in effect a companion novel. Several very important scenes are rushed over this time around as they were told in detail previously and nothing needed to be added. This being Holder’s story, the focus is not only on his relationship with Sky but also on overcoming his feelings of grief and guilt stemming from the untimely loss of his sister. If Daniel is so happy with Six, why is he still having thoughts of his fling in the closet? Moreover, why are his feelings for Six starting to feel an awful lot like the feelings he had for his pretend lover? Hoover’s decision to retell a story she’s already told was undoubtedly a risk, but it certainly was one worth taking. The character development in this story really shines as we meet Holder in a new light — his own light. The personalities of these two characters and the thoughts they possess are so vastly different; hearing them tell accounts of the same events is gripping.The only thing these stories have in common is their starting point.
