I took these photos to put together a photo tutorial about inserting Craft eyes, and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that was almost a year ago!!! I thought I’d better put this up before it’s a whole year gone by!!! Pre-cut ¼ inch (6mm) narrow strips to add to the raw edges of the seam before sewing. This will stop the fabric from fraying. If you still wish to use a French seam, trim off the fusible facing before you turn the fabric and sew the second step. You can also place hemming tape inside a folded edge and then press it with an iron according to the instructions. 4. Pinking Shears A no sew fabric finish is when a piece of fabric isn’t hemmed or bound by sewing. The fabric is naturally left but has an alternative way of finishing the edge. Place the washer onto the shank of the Craft eye…and push it down EVENLY, until it ‘clips’ into place. Suitable for most synthetic and natural materials and can be diluted with water to reduce stiffening effect.

Thread your needle. Take the unknotted end of your thread and grasp it between your thumb and forefinger. Loop it around the needle and slip the tiny loop off over the head of the needle creating a tight little loop. Flatten the loop between your fingers and then insert it through the eye of the needle until the loop pokes out the other side. Grasp the loop with your fingers and pull it through until the tail comes through. [4] X Research sourceCut sheer fabrics with a wider seam allowance. For example: If you add on an extra ⅜” (1cm) and change the seam allowance from ⅝” (1.5cm) to 1” (2.5cm), this allows for some frayed edges. 2. Sew French Seams The liquid adhesive or Modge Podge stops those threads from unraveling. Some brands have a squeeze nozzle, and others a spray nozzle. The squeeze nozzle is better for more precise applications.

Pinking sheers are simple a pair of scissors but the blades are crocodile tooth. Similar to the different patterned scissors you can get for children. I mean there is only one pointy cap and I suppose you are suppose to cut the tip and apply but, if I do that there is nothing to seal it after so can't cut the tip really. Look what happens to the GREEN Craft eye when you stuff the toy – it pops ‘out’ of the fabric and looks awful! Raw edges can stop fraying with the use of a serger. It is specifically designed for use in the binding of fibres to prevent fraying of fabric hems and seams. Using iron-on fusible interfacing or iron-on hem tape on the edges works very well to stop fraying. The following tips will help keep your focus on the fabric and not the fraying. They can apply to all fabrics, but the first few are more suited to sheers, and the last tips for burlaps and canvas. How to Stop Fraying in Fabric In some circumstances, layer of nail polish can be substituted where the seam and item won't be washed regularly. Make sure it is clear nail polish unless you want a colored new edge.
